Heartbreak Spades (Sabelo H. A collaborative EP was made, titled "Sweet Potatoes".

Nkosi) was born into the world on the 4th of June 1988 in a township known as Kwa Thema on the outskirts of Springs Town. Early Life

Spades grew up moving house first residing in Kwa Thema then relocating to Pretoria at the age of 5 due to his grandparents finding a business opportunity in the capital city. His grandparents owned a shoe shop and Spades would spend his time drawing on the empty sh

oe boxes. Shortly after moving to Pretoria his grandfather decided to go back home to Springs again in 1995. Spades attended school at Selcourt Primary School and spent his high school years at Springs Boys High School matriculating in 2006. Music

In 2003, Heartbreak Spades got his hands on his first rap CD. It was 50 Cent's "Get Rich or Die Tryin" album, after listening to it thats when he decided that he wanted to be a rapper. He cited the genre as perfect, full of character and original which became a personal benchmark for his own music. In 2006 he met a guy from his neighbourhood called Dollaside who liked his work and gave him studio time. Unfortunatley nothing came out of those sessions but Spades was now sure that the recording studio is where he wanted to spend the rest of his days. In 2012, Spades teamed up wth Aurakill his brother to record under the name "The Corporates". This was Spades first official statement as a recording artist. In between 2012-2014, Spades recorded two mixtapes as "The Corporates" and one solo project titled "The Heartbreak of Spades". Personally he felt the project was a flop as it didnt have the right sound. Later on in 2014 Spades recorded again, this time with a new vision and he titled that project " ". The project did quite well in terms of the sound Spades was chasing. Although never officially released, those who heard the project admired it and encouraged Spades to release it as his first full length album. The project was praised mostly for its sincerity and the brutal honesty about Spades personal life, the 12 tracks for Sincere were recorded over a period of one and a half years and was completed in November 2015. A month after the project was done he decided to move from Springs to Soweto to pursue his music career. BlueFunk

Hertbreak Spades was diagnosed with depression in 2016. Everything he knew and loved was falling apart before his very eyes, his relationship with his girlfriend, parents and his son were in turmoil and finally having given up, Spades decided to pack his bags and move back home. For the first two months after arriving home, Spades spent his days in bed, overdosing on medication and sleeping for 20 hours a day at any given time. A month before his birthday, Spades reached out to his friend and producer Rico Dalsegno (Mr Sell It Quick) to help him on his album which he titled BlueFunk. After explaining the concept to Rico, both were keen to work on the project but they didnt start immediatley. Coincidentally or by God's will as Spades likes to call it, his long time friends; MelZito and Desparado had just left an independent record label they had started due to clashes in the direction they should take. Spades met up with them too and had the same discussion about the album. The newly formed team had a problem though, they had no money and a recording studio to get the project started. MelZito and Spades reached out to another homeboy, Phobic, who had a small bedroom studio and asked to use it in their own space. When Phobic agreed, Rico and MelZito acted quickly to clean out the backroom and the equipment was brought to the premises. Recording started in June 2016 but it was not BlueFunk. The team came up with a name as a collective movement and decided on Five Nine Music. The members of the group were Aurakill, Desparado, Heartbreak Spades, MelGauds, MelZito, Rico Dalsegno and Sbudarico. Winter went by and the chemistry within the team was solidified. In September 2016, Spades started recording his EP , titled "Reasons & Explanations". The main focus of the EP was to release the negative energies that he didnt want present on the envisioned album. The EP was released on the 8th October 2016 on Audiomack. Heartbreak Spades was now ready to record BlueFunk. A few days before recording started, Rico introduced Spades to MattySpan, a guitarist that rapped as well. Spades heard what MattySpan could do with the electric guitar and immediatley asked him to join the Five Nine Music team. The recording of BlueFunk started on the 2nd of November 2016 and the first track recorded was titled "Broken". The majority of the album was recorded between November and December 2016 and two tracks were added in 2017, namely, "Who's Fooloing Who" and "TheseThingsTakeTime". Spades felt that the performance of BlueFunk had to be live and would ultimatley be given as an experience to the listener. Spades recruited a 3 piece band called "Simplisity" which compromised of Thulani Makaleng aka (02:00)PM who is the bass guitar player, Lwazi Gumbi who plays keys and Bhuti Sibanyoni who plays the drums. MattySpan and Desparado were added to the mix to play electric and acoustic guitars respectivley. After the completion of the project, MelZito suggested that the team meet a long time friend of his, Kopano Ramashala aka KR, who is a house producer and sound engineer to do the final mixing and mastering on the project. The first single off BlueFunk is "Funk" and its release date is yet to be confirmed. House.HipHop.Dance.Funk....Reimagined
