After 30 years of no official prayer at parliament, last week we saw an historic return to prayer in parliament in South Africa!
30 years after Nelson Mandela abolished the traditional prayer at the beginning of parliament, May 1994, last week we saw a surprising and historic return to prayer in parliament in South Africa. Not everyone stood, but many did. Not everyone paid attention, but many had their heads bowed.
It could have been a lot better. There should have been more Scripture reading and a call to repentance. However, this was a small but significant and promising departure from the militant atheism of previous administrations.
"If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." – 2 Chronicles 7:14
