The media often makes out to be heroes, and they are, but it also tends to make everyone else look helpless. That’s just not true. It is 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲'𝘀 job to prepare for and prevent , and we aren’t helpless. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱. By being proactive, being aware of fire hazards, and simply putting basic plans in place to decrease our risk, we can help keep our families, , and land safe.

𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

Invasive plant species pose more than one problem. Many of you may know that they can be heavy on water and bad for our indigenous , but less of you may know that they can DRASTICALLY increase fire risk.

In a nutshell, this is because they can increase fuel loads and fire intensities, depending on how densely they grow. Any very dense vegetation will increase your fuel load and therefore your fire intensity if they were to burn, but since non-native species often grow so quickly, they can become a big issue faster than an overgrowth of indigenous species.

It’s important to keep to a minimum. You can reduce them by removing them manually, with pesticides, or even completing a prescribed burn if you own land. Not only will you be managing your in general, but you’ll be helping the at the same time!
