When you miss your commitments it's hard not to see it as disrespectful. If you promised to do something, it forces people to cover for you, but if you have a good reason they will be fine. If not they will feel disrespected. You don't need people wondering if you can be trusted, you need them believing that you can be trusted and respecting you for doing it well.
