Mbalula must account for Pongola's horror crash

After the horrific accident that killed 21 people, including 19 school children, between the truck and a bakkie on Friday, calls for minister Fikile Mbalula to account are mounting.

This comes after a twitter user who goes by the name of shared messages he has been sending to minister Mbalula, begging for help on that same road. In some cases, he even shared videos with the minister, indicating how dangerous that road is, as truck drivers operate lawlessly.

A tweet from June 13,2019 read: " I am from a small town called Pongola in Northern KZN, we have N2 crossing in the middle of the town, there are no robots to control the traffic and it is only a matter of time before a huge accident that will take many lives happen..."

He further mentioned that, their pleas to the municipality to repair the road and install traffic lights fell on deaf ears.

As early as three weeks ago in August 26,2022, again pleaded with minister Mbalula and SANRAL for help. He wrote
" Trucks are killing us on the Pongola N2 , no traffic cops manning this route except local traffic cops when trucks get to town. We request your urgent intervention." No reply came from either the minister or SANRAL

However, in the contrary, a celebrity known as Anele Mdoda wrote a tweet to the minister about potholes that damaged two of her tyres, the minister responded immediately instructing Anele to DM (direct message) him.

Black Twitter now suggests that, should been a celebrity, those 21 people would still be alive, because the minister would have taken him seriously.

Meanwhile, the driver who fled the scene after the accident, handed himself over to the police on Saturday. He is expected to appear before the Pongola Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

It is expected that the community will come in numbers to see the mass murderer who cut the lives of many young children short, MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Sipho Hlomuka will be in attendance in court.

There won't any lawlessness tolarated on the national shutdown - Bheki Cele

The Minister of Police Bheki Cele has warned that any lawlessness will be dealt with dicisively during the planned national shutdown.

This comes after the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure confirmed that they are aware of posts on social media calling for a national shutdown.

In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, it said, law enforcement agencies are on high alert to ensure the safety of citizens and has discouraged people from taking part in illegal activities.

Local policing forums have been urged to work with police to prevent any lawlessness in communities.

The South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) led by Zwelinzima Vavi plans to lead thousands of workers and activists in a nationwide strike on Wednesday (24 August) against high unemployment, increased electricity tariffs and steep increases in fuel and transport costs.

The trade union federation has asked all unions to join the strike but only a handful have agreed to down tools on 24 August, Saftu SG Vavi told the news reporters.

Ramaphosa said the community must leave the matter to the police.

Meanwhile, Lesotho Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro wrote a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa condemning the recent attack on eight women. Ramaphosa finally speaks after a long wait as delegates couldn't give him a chance

Newly elected ANC KwaZulu-Natal chairperson Sboniso Duma had to plead with delegates on Sunday evening to allow President Cyril Ramaphosa an opportunity to speak and address plenary.

Amid confusion as to whether or not, the president would be attending the KZN provincial conference, eventually he arrived at the Olive Convention Centre

However, drama started as soon as Ramaphosa got out of his car, he was greeted by Duma. Other ANC members who had gathered outside the venue started singing "Wenzeni uZuma."

The trend continued when Ramaphosa went inside plenary to address the conference's 1608 voting delegates.

The President was greeted by boos inside and Wenzeni uZuma chant continued, this time, louder. It was only when Duma took the mic to plead with his comrades to show "revolutionary discipline" that the delegates finally gave Ramaphosa audience.

At least 22 young men and women found DEAD in East London tavern

Twenty-two people have been found dead at an East London beer joint. According to the reports, the bodies of the victims are scattered across the Enyobeni tavern and authorities are currently investigating the scene.

It is reported that this horrific scene unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning with frantic messages requesting police, metro and ambulance assistance at Enyobeni Tavern in Scenery Park, East London.

Even though there's no official cause of death reported, unconfirmed reports suggests that the 22 victims are young school student who were apparently celebrating their pens down event at the tavern.

It is further alleged that the owner of the Shebeen wanted to close the place but the young stars refused to leave, it is said that he then sprayed an undisclosed gas to force them out, but unfortunately it killed them instead.

Horrifying images from inside the tarven seen by B. E. N are not suitable for publication in respect of the deceased and their families.

This is a developing story, official findings will be announced as soon as Black Excellence Network receives update.

Young mom fear for her life as abusive partner vows to kill her and their children.

Dudu Khumalo has become a regular at Manguzi Police station as she frequently reports various cases stemming from r**e, assault, intimidation and all sorts of abuse. However, none of these cases have ever made it to court.

What should have been a fairytale of two childhood lovers, has become a matter of life and death. Ms Khumalo told Black Excellence Network about her horryifing ordeal. She says she has been living with Dumisani Mthembu who works as a Switchboard Operator at Manguzi hospital for 15 years, they share 4 children together, of which only 3 are alive as one died as a result of physical abuse when she was pregnant.

"I am so afraid for my life, he tells me all the time that he will kill me and my children, I have broken ribs and scars from broken bottles he hit me with on my head. Sometimes I wish he could just kill me once, this is too much." - sorbed MaKhumalo.

Black Excellence Network called Manguzi Police station and spoke to Captain Mkhathini who is quite familiar with the matter. He said he is well aware of Dudu's matter but there's nothing he can do because Dudu has opened several cases and later comes back to withdraw them.

"She was here yesterday, I showed her all her case files, we are waiting for her to come open another case if she wants, but the problem is that she goes back home and make out with the suspect, then come back here to withdraw the case, we can't do anything, it is her choice. "-Said Captain Mkhathini

MaKhumalo says Dumisani would r**e her several times when he returns from drinking at the tarvens.

"He comes here and just pull my panties off, shove his hands inside me and r**e me. Recently he even took my panties to a guy he accuses me of dating, he beat up the guy claiming he sleeps with me. He says that I am a pr******te and I sell my services for R5, he has evidence from my alleged customers." - she said.

It is further reported that Dumisani would frequently chase her and the children away from home, and later beg them to return.

"We were fine before, but since he started working at the hospital, he changed. He doesn't want me to work. I tried selling clothes before and he would beat me up and say I am embarrassing him to his friends, and I should stop." - painfully narrated Dudu.

Dumisani did not want to speak to Black Excellence as he constantly dropped the call when our journalist introduced herself to him.

Black Excellence Network is following up on a new case Dudu just open which include R**e, assault and intimation.

Zikhala Ngempela as KZN premier Sihle Zikalala exchange blows with Ngizwe Mchunu

KwaZulu-Natal premier Sihle Zikalala has opened an assault and crimen injuria case against former Ukhozi FM broadcaster Ngizwe Mchunu.

In a statement released by Zikala's office, it said the case had been opened at the Durban Central police station after the two were involved in a confrontation on Saturday.

“Charges against Mchunu include assault and crimen injuria after an incident which took place during the Ingoma Kazwelonke competition held at Moses Mabhida Stadium,” said the Premier's spokesperson Lennox Mabaso.

Meanwhile, the former Ukhozi FM radio presenter, Ngizwe Mchunu says he was the first one to open a criminal complaint at the Durban Central Police Station against Zikalala for alleged assault because he first was attacked by Zikalala.

He said while at the event, he had been summoned by Zikalala and, as a form of respect, he knelt down besides the premier to hear what he had to say. This was in full view of other delegates.

“He asked me wangifunani wena?” which could translate to "why are you always after me."? - claimed Mchunu

“Hitting me in a public space, I was carrying a stick and I got an opportunity to hit him back and very hard. I wondered what is going to happen because now amongst us some had to be superior and think about the rest of the South African people,” said the Azikhale sensation who's also the president of Amabhinca nation.

“Although he was sitting, he was extremely drunk. Even before I responded ... he hit me. Nomagugu Simelane, the MEC of health, rose up and said don't do this ... She was in tears because she knows exactly what damage the premier was causing hitting me in front of everyone,” alleged Ngizwe.

Black Excellence Network will keep you posted with the developments of the story and the cases opened.

Ramaphosa under fire after Glencore corruption scandal

Former Eskom chief executive Matshela Koko confirmed that he is currently consulting lawyers about igniting fresh investigations into President Cyril Ramaphosa-linked Glencore and its dirty deals at the power utility.

This comes after the international company made headlines around the world for corruption and a bribery network that sought to advance the company's international influence.

Glencore International has pleaded guilty and agreed to pay $1 186 billion (R18 461bn) in fines and penalties for corrupt practices in dealing with foreign governments.

Former Eskom bosses Brian Molefe and Koko both testified that there had been an adversarial relationship between the power utility and Glencore.

Ramaphosa, who was then head of government business and overseeing Eskom, was also chair of Glencore at the same time.

Further allegations were made by yet another Former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe who alleged that President Cyril Ramaphosa had unjustifiable coal contract worth R1.4 billion awarded to Glencore in 2012. Molefe further alleged that Ramaphosa had acquired a 9.4% stake in Optimum Mine which was later bought by Glencore.

MaMkhize to the rescue! Dr Zweli Mkhize fixes things with son and SIU

Royal AM owner and businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize has come to the rescue to the former health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize whom she called her ‘father". On Thursday, MaMkhize took to her Instagram page to announce that she took it as the big sister” to unite the former minister and his son Dedani Mkhize ahead of the family’s festivities.

In August 2019, Dr Mkhize stepped down as the health minister following the “digital vibes” corruption scandal. Daily Maverick reported that Dedani Mkhize received R3.4-million in cash payments from recipients of some of the proceeds from the contract, according to the Special Investigation Units (SIU) ‘s findings.

According to MaMkhize, Dedani has now paid back all the money in question to the SIU.

"I’m glad that Dedani did the right thing by paying back all the money in question to the SIU and allowing the law to run its cause.

When all is said and done family comes first and politics last. We are bound by blood and we owe it to ourselves to be our own peacemakers no matter what." - Part of MaMkhize's Instagram post reads.

Malena calls for Judge Zondo to be discredited for campaigning for Ramaphosa’s second term

EFF leader Julius Malema has added his voice to calls for chief justice Raymond Zondo to be held to account for suggesting President Cyril Ramaphosa’s election saved the country.

In part 4 of the state capture report released two weeks ago, state capture inquiry chairperson Zondo said the National Treasury would have suffered irreparable damage had it not been for the ANC conference in 2017 that elected Ramaphosa to take over from former president Jacob Zuma.

Malema is echoing ANC heavyweight Tony Yengeni's words, Yengeni also accused Zondo of endorsing Ramaphosa’s re-election and has taken up the matter with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), arguing that Zondo breached the code of judicial conduct.

“Zondo is a factionalist who supports Ramaphosa’s second term. That’s why he saw it necessary for him to put that Ramaphosa’s election in the ANC rescued us from where we were. He’s effectively saying if you don’t elect Ramaphosa this December, we are going to be in trouble,”Malema told the the media on Monday.

He further lambasted the remarks, saying they were an endorsement for Ramaphosa’s second term when the party holds its elective conference in December.

The red berets' leader said Zondo had entered political terrain and as the result, he should be taken to task, as was done to his predecessor Mogoeng Mogoeng.

Key state witness in the murder trial of Senzo Meyiwa, has reportedly been shot dead.

Police have confirmed the death of the retired police official, Brigadier Philani Ndlovu who was the former provisional head of SAPS and one of the first to arrive at the crime scene of where Senzo was shot. It is alleged that he was shot in an ex*****on style.

Meyiwa was shot in the chest during an alleged house robbery at the home of the mother of his then girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo.

Ndlovu's death comes just days after defence advocate, Malesela Teffo approached the courts to have the trial brought forward, claiming witnesses were in danger as they were receiving death threats.

He was mentioned during the testimony of the first state witness, Sgt Thabo Mosia as part of the first forensic team to collect evidence from the Vosloorus home where the shooting occurred. During cross-examination Mosia told the court that he was briefed by Brigadier Ndlovu when he had arrived at the scene, hours after the shooting.

Defence advocate, Malesela Teffo poked holes in Mosia’s testimony alleging that Brigadier Ndlovu had tampered with the crime scene ahead of Mosia’s arrival.

One key question was why did Ndlovu arrive around 8pm but only called Sgt Mosia more than 3 hours later, what was he doing all that time?

Ndlovu was expected to be called as a state witness to assist the court in establishing what exactly transpired on that fateful October evening.

The trial is expected to resume at the end of the month with Mosia being cross-examined by the defence for the fifth accused.

Five men are currently standing trial for Meyiwa’s death.

Eskom promise more loadshedding as winter season deepens

Eskom has cautioned that the coming weeks will see severe constraints on its struggling power grid, which will mean, they'll implement more load shedding.

The utility implemented stage 2 loadshedding again on Tuesday last week after several units broke down. After ending that stage 2 load shedding on Saturday afternoon, within less than 36 hours, Eskom announced the return of load shedding on Monday as a result of an increase in generation capacity constraints.

In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, the utility warned that south Africa will have to bear the brunt of more power cuts in the coming months due to the winter season.

"We currently have 3,000 Megawatts on planned maintenance. Another 15,700 Megawatts of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns." - Said Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.

With around 100 days of power cuts forecast for the cold days, South Africans are living on the edge and those who can are finding alternative ways to keep their homes warm or their businesses open.

Julius Malema has announced his party intends to establish its own labour union.

Economic Freedom Fighters commander in chief Julius Malema, has promised the winds of change for South African labourers. He addressed thousands of supporters at a May Day rally in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, on Sunday.

"We are preparing to do a union, and not a Mickey Mouse union, who is in cahoots and in bed with the employer.

"That union will never sell out. That union will always be on the side of the workers," said the determined Malema

Malema threw a jab at the ANC's alliance partner, Cosatu, and pledged the EFF would overtake Cosatu.

According to Malema, South African unions were taking the side of employers, adding this created a vacuum for the workers - a vacuum the EFF intends to fill.

Through its labour desk, the EFF has been helping workers notwithstanding their political party affiliation. Led by Hlengiwe Mkhalipi, the labour desk allows walk-ins at the party’s headquarters by workers experiencing issues.

Malema said despite its successes, the party is continually being taken to court by companies claiming the EFF does not have the jurisdiction to challenge worker-related issues as it is not a labour union.

Hence he intends to officially register his labour desk as a union.

"You will only experience "real freedom" if the ANC is ousted" - DA Leader

Opposition leaders took their Freedom Day addresses to crack the whip on the country's government and take a jibe at the nation's leadership.

Speaking at the EFF's Freedom Day Rally in Moretele View Park in Mamelodi, party Commander in Chief Julius Malema slammed government for its failure to fulfill its "28 year promises", saying that it is to blame for the poor state of the economy, high crime and unemployment rates.

Malema also addressed the scourge of GBV, saying that freedom is meaningless to South African women who continue "to be r**ed and killed" because the country had declared a war against them.

Echoing some of Malema's views, during his visit to the Gqanqu Village in the Eastern Cape, DA leader John Steenhuisen told his supporters that the country will only experience "real freedom" if the ANC is ousted, and only if DA is voted into power.

"In 2024, a vote for the DA will be a vote to end poverty and create jobs. That’s what real freedom is all about," said Steenhuisen.

Meanwhile, Trade union federation Cosatu blasted government's decision to amend the rules for the Covid-19 Social Relief Grant, saying that the poor and working class could no longer rely on President Cyril Ramaphosa's administration.

Ramaphosa confirms the end of the National State of Disaster

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that Cabinet has decided to terminate the National State of Disaster with effect from midnight tonight.

Ramaphosa made these remarks during his address on the developments in South Africa’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Monday evening.

Furthermore, he stated that certain transitional provisions will remain in place for a period of 30 days after the termination of the National State of Disaster.

"This will ensure essential public health precautions and other necessary services are not interrupted while the new regulations in terms of the National Health Act come into effect," he said.

He also explained that end of the National State of Disaster also means that the Coronavirus Alert Levels will no longer apply.

"The few transitional measures that remain are limited in scope, and allow almost all social and economic activity to resume as normal," he added.
