In the fourth video of our enlightening series, Ntokozo-Dumakude Moya delves into the pivotal role of direction during our shoot at Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine (Pty) Ltd (SBPM), guided by the experienced Hlekulani Maluleke, a former miner whose insights shaped our visual narrative.

Ntokozo also shines a light on the challenging conditions under which the project was executed—highlighting not just the physical demands of shooting in a mining environment but also the resilience and spirit of the miners themselves. He walks us through the detailed workflow that brings each image to its full potential, from initial selection to the final touches.

As we conclude our series highlighting the impactful projects of 2023, it's imperative to recognize a partnership that has not only flourished but also significantly contributed to our portfolio - our ongoing relationship with the CSIR. Since 2021, Flashing Lites Studios has been privileged to work closely with the CSIR, embarking on various video production and commercial photography projects that have both challenged and enriched our team.

The latest venture, a SHERQ induction video for the CSIR's health and safety function, stands as a testament to the collaborative and meticulous approach that defines our work. Led by Lerato Xaba, our Creative Director, this project was an intricate endeavour, meticulously planned and executed over several months. The production spanned multiple days of shooting, capturing the essence of the CSIR's commitment to Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality (SHERQ) across its vast operational landscape.

Among the highlights of 2023, the production of an overview video for Exxaro's flagship Grootegeluk mine in Lephalale stands out for its depth and ambition. Under the expert leadership of Lerato Xaba, our Creative Director, the Flashing Lites Studios team embarked on a comprehensive journey that spanned scripting, production, and post-production, delving into the marvel that is Grootegeluk.

This endeavor was more than a project; it was an adventure that led us into the mine's pit, through its towering silos, and across the operations of its various plants. The process offered us a rare glimpse into the intricate workings of one of the most advanced mining operations, challenging our team to capture the essence of Grootegeluk's innovation and operational excellence.

It reflects our dedication to projects that not only highlight operational success but also foster community development and talent attraction to regions like Lephalale.

Highlighting the fifth standout project of 2023, we delve into an exciting venture that
merges the realms of animation and storytelling. Under the creative guidance of Lerato
Xaba, our Creative Director, Flashing Lites Studios is proud to have co-produced a pilot
episode for an animated series featuring the inspirational Shudufadzo Musida.
This collaboration, still in its development stages, showcases Lerato's significant
contributions to a project that promises to captivate audiences with its blend of vibrant
animation and profound narratives. Inspired by the life and work of Shudu Musida, this
series aims to translate her empowering messages into a format that speaks to both
young hearts and minds.

Stay tuned as we journey through the development of this animated series, a testament
to the power of collaboration, creativity, and the magic of animation in bringing
inspirational stories to life.
