The ugly side of Chemo
Last Monday, I had my final IV chemo, yay!!! 🥳 and on Sunday, I finished my chemo pills🎉
What I didn’t realize was that the sore throat i developed last Wednesday was progressing into something much worse. I got sicker everyday but thought it was just flu.
By Monday night, I ended up in high care with Febrile Neutropenia and Sepsis.
Chemo doesn’t just kill the bad cells - it wipes out your immunity, too.
My white blood cells were so low that something as simple as a sore throat initially became life-threatening. This is why, if you’re a cancer patient going through chemo and pick up a fever without symptoms or just feel unwell, please don’t ignore it. Always ask to check your neutrophils, ask to check your CRP counts as well if you know you have low blood counts.
Even something that feels like the flu can escalate so quickly.
Thankfully, I’m already feeling better because I’m on the strongest antibiotics, resting, and letting my body heal. I know I’ll be okay because God’s got me through this, just like He has through everything else. I’ve had an army of people praying for me all over the world and I’m so thankful and grateful for each and every one of you🙏🏼 This journey will be a testimony of His grace and mercy, because God knows, without Him carrying me on some days, i wouldn’t be able to do this. Psalm 91, go read and declare it over you and your family!
The cancer road is tough - not just for us, but for our loved ones, too. Everyone’s journey looks different, and we fight different battles but we all have hope, without it there is nothing.
Never give up on that. We’re stronger than we know, and with Jesus, there’s always hope! ✝️

There was no lump under this ring that I could feel.
I had an Ablation done in February, a minimal invasive surgery, and 2 days after that is when i noticed this strange ring on my breast that looked like it couldn’t be anything else than a ringworm.
I had a mammogram booked as my Gynie reminded me to go when I had the ablation. I actually postponed my mammogram because i didn’t want to infect other woman because a ringworm is a contagious fungal infection.
After a few weeks of using anti-fungal cream and it not going away, the next mammogram was coming up.
I decided to just go and tell them about it and hear if the cream I’m using will eventually get rid of it.
They did a mammogram and a sonar and then she said she sees some calcification under the ring and when I had my arm up I could actually feel the outside of the ring under my skin, if that makes sense.
She told me she wanted to do a biopsy and phoned me next day to say that it is cancer, 19 April 2024.
It never crossed my mind that it was cancer, not even when she said we have to do the biopsy.
I’m currently half way through chemo and I’m sharing my journey so other woman will never wait to go have any strange mark or symptom checked out! Screening saves lives, I don’t care what screening you do, just go screen!

Excuse the falling apart in the end but my emotions are all over the place. I want to share the chemo regime I’m on because I was hoping I could find someone else that posted about being on this when I had to make a decision. This might be the video someone else sees when they have to make decisions about which chemo to go on and what to expect.
CMF stands for cyclophosphamide, methotrexate and fluorouracil.
Thanks for all the love and as I get better days, I will post some cool content again🙌🏼Love to all of you 🩷

I cling to thisđź©·
It was seriously so much better than I anticipated. I also put an ice pack on it for a few minutes before she inserted the needle. I will do this every time now because it works. It was less painful than trying to find a vein somewhere in my arm so I’m happy I decided to go the port route.
Thanks to everyone for the valuable advice to make this a good experience. Share this to a friend that’s starting chemo and needs these tips to help them🎀

Chemotherapy can be very hard on veins – making them less elastic and smaller in size.
A chemo port delivers it directly to a large vein. This reduces your risk for extravasation (when fluids like chemotherapy drugs leak from a vein into the tissues around it).
On treatment days, you’ll have your port accessed once, with a special needle stuck directly into the port. That way, if you need any additional infusions or blood draws(which they do every week before chemo) those can go through the port so that you don’t need multiple needle sticks. Having a port can make cancer treatment a bit more comfortable and worth chatting to your oncologist about.
Let me know if you have any questions.
