Throughout my career in various schools and companies, I've had the chance to work under different principals, managers, and leaders. It's common to hear colleagues express dissatisfaction with management, organizational structure, or leadership styles. From what I've observed, we often fail to appreciate the positive aspects of our managers' or leaders' actions. Instead, we tend to focus on the negatives and complain.
This is a general observation, and I acknowledge that there are individuals who do speak positively about their managers or leaders.
The reason for my writing is to highlight the importance of appreciating those in management or leadership roles. Even if you possess more experience or higher qualifications than your manager, they have been appointed to oversee and guide you.
This doesn't mean you shouldn't express your opinions. However, it's crucial to do so thoughtfully and constructively. It's not appropriate to bluntly tell a manager they are wrong. Instead, present your ideas and be ready for them to be either rejected or accepted. We all have unique visions, talents, and perspectives, which means we will inevitably see things differently. My point is, it's important to support your manager.
I've witnessed employees leave their jobs due to poor treatment by their managers. Sometimes the reasons are justified, other times it's simply because the manager doesn't favor them, which can be particularly disheartening. Despite one's hard work and dedication, if a manager takes a dislike to them, it can negate all their efforts. I've experienced this myself and had to leave a position due to victimization.
I hope for a workplace where managers lead without bias, treat everyone equally, and recognize outstanding performance.
We spend a significant portion of our lives at work, and being unhappy in our jobs can lead to years of discontent. You don't want to live an unhappy life
