UFH MUSIC HOD, NDUDUZO MAKHATHINI BAGS HIS PHD IN MUSIC

Congratulations to the head of the University of Fort Hare’s Music Department and multi-award-winning international jazz maestro, Nduduzo Makhathini on the conferment of his PhD in Music by Stellenbosch University during a graduation ceremony yesterday.

Dr. Makhathini undertook a study for his dissertation titled: “Breaking into Sound: Dis/Locating Ntu Cosmology and Improvisation in South African Jazz.”

His study emerges from a mature artistic practice which understands jazz improvisation as a process that dialogues intimately with Ntu cosmology.

Taking Ntu cosmology as the point of departure, the study presents alternative lexicons for engaging South African improvised musics.

This innovative study, articulating from a high level of artistic proficiency, performs several important epistemic interventions. It radically centers African ritual and spirituality as locale of knowledge and it pushes understandings of ritual and spirituality rooted in African cosmologies beyond strictly traditional spheres.

A day after being capped, Dr Makhathini took to social media and wrote a heartfelt message of gratitude to those who supported him during his PhD journey.

I Remember When I Was Younger, I Used To see my Mom smear the house using cow dung.

I asked her why are you using this Cow Dung instead of using cement.
She Said “We Use Cow Dung because It is Herbal Medicine from Different Leaves and Plants that the Cattles eat on a daily basis. All this Plants, Grass and Leaves get boiled in the stomach of a cattle then they fuse together, activating chemical bonds. When we apply the cow dung on the floor, and We Walk over it with our Barefoot, The Natural Herbal Chemicals from the Cow Dung gets transfered into Our Bodies through the pores under our Feet”.

From that day I enjoyed laying down on the floor shirtless and fall asleep, Wow it was very cool, refreshing and soothing!
Our ANCESTORS did not Use This things because they're poor but because They're Rich With Knowledge of Science, Chemistry, Medicine and Self Awareness of Understanding Their Environment and MOTHER UNIVERSE!!

The Recording Academy's CEO recently mentioned talk of adding an Afrobeats category to its line-up of awards.

In a recent trip to Ghana, Harvey Mason Jr. told Ghanaian journalists that the Recording Academy was in talks with the key players in the Afrobeats music scene to explore the possibility of adding Afrobeats to the award's genre list.

During the conversation, he mentioned that the Academy was working with "leaders of the Afrobeats community" to promote inclusivity at the Grammys.

As we begin a week leading up to 24 September, a National Heritage Day in South Africa, we thought it appropriate to share heritage sites with you. Adam’s Calendar is controversially known as the oldest human-made structure in the world. Sometimes referred to as "African Stonehenge", it predates the Great Pyramid of Giza by tens of thousands of years. It is located in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The heritage site is named Adam’s Calendar because the stones are placed in such a way that they track the movement of the sun, which casts shadows on the different rocks. It still works effectively as a calendar today. One can mark time by following the shadow of the setting sun. Known by African elders, as the “The Birthplace of The Sun” or “Inzalo y’Langa”, the site was first brought to public attention in 2003.

" A few months back, while I was occasionally reading up and doing research on numerous topics, a pop up on YouTube came up, captioned "A.I art..."

The video went indepth on how a new tool has been created , a tool that will revolutionize the way we view art and pictures we search online for any reason whether stock images, thumbnails etc

When you think of Art most think of brush strokes, canvas, Picasso, van Gogh etc.

What if I told you you could own a van Gogh painting that was not painted by the famous Dutch painter...yes it's possible

How??

With one of two A.i platforms called midjourney and another called DALL-E

Yes as you've guessed it these platforms generate realistic and to the detail images using A.I technology.

You simply insert a prompt/ phrase which the A.I uses to create completely new images from scratch.

We tested it and generated the image below with a prompt of "Sunset Beach"

All this can be done on discord app for Midjourney and Dall-E has a website called DALL-E mini or CrAIyon

This will be the Change of certain sectors that need such imagery generation.
