Local business owners must register their spaza shops with the relevant authorities by 13 December 2024. Joint operations are being conducted throughout the province to ensure compliance. Premises found to be non-compliant are being closed, and any illicit goods discovered are being seized.
MEC, Tsh*tereke Matibe, has appealed to local residents to stop leasing out their properties and spaza shop licenses to illegal foreign nationals to conduct their businesses. “Our view is that during this process of registering businesses, is for our people to reclaim the township and rural economy in terms of businesses and to assist them to take ownership of local businesses and what is sold in their communities,” says MEC Matibe.

In his remarks at the media launch of the National Tourism Career Expo (NTCE) at, , MEC of LEDET Tsh*tereke Matibe stated that the NTCE provides a platform for the sector to create and promote tourism as a career, profession and business of choice whilst simultaneously promoting the industry as an employer of choice. "We are happy to announce that Limpopo will be welcoming a host of tour operators, hospitality, food and beverage exhibitors from across the country to display their products during the three days."
The NTCE takes place from 8-10 October. The exhibition targeting grade 9-12 learners will include a conservation corner, the virtual classroom and recruitment arena for the youth, the Youth Business Zone and more informative stands for visitors.
