CLARITY ON LIQUOR TRADING HOURS

The Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism has noted with great concern the uninformed and confusion causing utterances by Sekhukhune Liquor Traders Association regarding on-site- liquor consumption outlets (restaurants, taverns, casinos and clubs) closing hours being moved to 22h00.

The Department is not aware of such changes and therefore condemns distribution of such fake news. The Department calls upon the Sekhukhune Liquor Traders Association to priorities the interest of liquor license holders as well as our people at large. This can be done by simply communicating with the Department and being informed at all times on matters related to the Provincial liquor industry.

The Department has held a Liquor Industry Stakeholder consultative Session which resulted in issuing of a gazette requesting liquor outlets to convert by 31 st December 2024 with a second gazette issued to deal with the liquor regulations whereby the position of the Department is to consider on-site-consumption outlets to close at 02h00. Sekhukhune Liquor Traders Association was part of the engagement session and has welcomed the call to forward submissions on the amendments of the liquor regulations.

The Department therefore advises license holders and the people of Limpopo to disregard the fake utterances by Sekhukhune Liquor Traders Association which seeks to disrupt peace within the Liquor Industry and await accurate decisions on liquor Regulations amendments from the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism.
