MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya visited Mothomeng Primary school at Mothomeng Village in, Mopani West Education District to assess storm damaged classrooms and monitor the learning and teaching for the 2025 academic year.

Mothomeng Primary has an enrolment of 501 learners and was one of the 127 schools that were affected by the storm. The storm damaged one block and this led to the merging of two classes and as a result, learning and teaching was affected. Before the intervention, learners had to be released early to go home. The Department of education responded swiftly by providing 4 mobile classrooms as a temporary relief.

The department will on friday deliver furniture ,which will be double combination desks for the four mobile classrooms.

The School Governing body has applauded the swift intervention and they believe it will go a long way in ensuring that learning and teaching continue without disruptions.

FIVE UNDOCUMENTED FOREIGN NATIONALS BUSTED FOR ALLEGED ILLEGAL MINING OF PRESUMED GOLD-BEARING MINERALS IN GIYANI

In a concerted effort to combat illegal mining activities in Limpopo, the multidisciplinary Vala Umgodi Task Team arrested five undocumented foreign nationals, including three females, for illegal mining of presumed gold-bearing materials in the Mavalani area, Giyani, under the Mopani District on 15 January 2025 at about 10:40.

The suspects were apprehended following an intelligence-driven joint operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS), South African National Defence Force (SANDF), and Airwing (Drone Pilot). The suspects were found engaged in illegal mining activities across different sites, and upon noticing the presence of law enforcement, they attempted to flee into nearby bushes. With the assistance of drone surveillance, law enforcement managed to apprehend two males, aged 31 and 44, and three females, aged between 24 and 42.

During the operation, nearly 1000 x 50kg bags containing sand suspected of containing gold bearing minerals were recovered. Additionally, the following items were seized:

Three picks

Two spades

Two plastic basins

Four shovels

Five white buckets

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the arrests and commended the collaborative efforts of the law enforcement agencies in curbing illegal mining activities in the province.

The suspects are expected to appear before Giyani Magistrate's Court on Friday, 17 January 2025, to face charges of illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act.

THE PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER OF POLICE IN LIMPOPO ORDERS MALAMULELE POLICE TO TRACK AND TRACE AN AWAITING TRIAL FUGITIVE

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered police to utilize the available resources to search for the awaiting trial prisoner who allegedly escaped from police custody after court appearance at Malamulele.

Reports suggest that the
suspect, Thembinkosi Gift Mabunda, 24 years old who is from Hasani Mbalati village escaped on Friday 10 January 2025 at about 14h00. It is alleged that when the incident happened the fugitive was with other four awaiting trial prisoners and meant to get into the prisoner's truck when he escaped. The circumstances surrounding the escape is currently under police internal investigation processes.

The escapee , Thembinkosi Gift Mabunda was facing multiple charges including carjacking.

Currently further charges of escaping from lawful custody and aiding prisoner to escape have been added. More charges may be added as the investigations unfold.

Letaba TVET College tackles the challenge of student housing.

IN an effort to address the big need for student accommodation Letaba TVET College has now opened the Modjadji Campus student accommodation at Kgapane in Limpopo.

The newly renovated student accommodation that offers 124 fully furnished rooms was officially reopened on Friday, 10 January 2025.

According to the College Spokesperson, Mr Godfrey Mabasa each student receives free Wi-Fi. "Our rooms are fully furnished with a quarter bed and quality mattress, desk, chair, bookcase, wardrobe, wall mounted panel heater and block-out curtains, Two students share a well-equipped kitchen"

The College Acting Principal, Mr Moshoma Benjamin said The students hostels have been meticulously designed to provide students with a secure, comfortable, and stimulating living environment that seamlessly complements their academic pursuits.

"In line with our mission to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment, we are thrilled to offer our students these exceptional accommodation facilities," said Mr. Moshoma.

MEC DIEKETSENG MASHEGO CONDEMNS THE ABDUCTION AND R**E OF NURSES AT CHUENE CLINIC

MEC Dieketseng Mashego is appalled by a horrific incident in which two nurses on duty were abducted at gunpoint, assaulted and r***d them.

MEC Mashego expressed her shock and disgust at the barbaric actions of a heavily armed man who entered the Chuene Clinic, overpowered three security personnel, and tied them up before abducting the two nurses. This incident occurred around 1:00 AM while the nurses were on night duty, and they only reappeared around 5:00 AM this morning.

"This deplorable incident is a serious setback to our department's efforts to ensure that clinics can function 24 hours a day," stated MEC Mashego. "My heart goes out to the two nurses who have suffered immense physical and psychological trauma. How can we convince our staff to work night shifts to serve the community if the same community turns against them in such a violent manner?"

MEC Mashego has made a heartfelt call to action for the community.

"This incident is not just an attack on our clinic; it is an affront to the very fabric of our community. The individuals responsible for this crime are not strangers; they may be living among us. Surely, as community members, we must know something. I urge every member of our community to rise up and assist the police in their investigation. We must come together, share any information, and support law enforcement in their relentless pursuit of justice. The safety of our community and the well-being of our healthcare workers depend on our collective action," pleaded MEC Mashego.

The police have been called to the scene, and psychological support has been arranged for the victims.

MEC Mashego promised that her department will not rest until the perpetrator is found and brought to justice, emphasizing the commitment to work closely with law enforcement agencies.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has expressed shock and dismay following allegations that foreign nationals are working with South Africans in the province to kill people for their body parts as falsely reported in various social media platforms.

According to these claims, these organised criminals rob vehicles and approach any house, pretending to seek help. As soon as they gain entry into the houses, they then kill the occupants by removing their body parts while they are still alive.

DEPUTY MINISTER OF POLICE URGES HARD ACTION ON CRIMINAL DURING SAFER FESTIVE SEASON OPERATION INSPECTION TOUR

Deputy Minister of Police, Boshielo, led the Safer Festive Season Operational Inspection Tour in Limpopo on Sunday, 22 December 2024. She was joined by Polokwane Municipality MMC for Community Services, Cllr Joosuf Pemma, Acting Deputy National Commissioner for Support Services, Lieutenant General Lineo Nkhuoa, and Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
The tour was aimed at assessing the Province's operational readiness for the Safer Festive Season campaign.

Also in attendance were Ms. Jane Mulaudzi, Chief Director for Transport Regulations, Head of Civilian Secretariat for Police Service, Ms Nhlane-Mthimkhulu, Major General Jan Scheepers (Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing), Major General Samuel Manala (Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection), Major General Mashilo, District Commissioner of Capricorn, Station Commanders, senior officers, and representatives from various organizations, including Mr. Fannie Kgopa from Eyes of the Nation.

The visit began with a parade featuring SAPS, Home Affairs, National and Provincial Traffic Police at the University of Limpopo, followed by activities such as roadblocks, spaza shop compliance checks, community engagement, and a walk-about at Paledi Mall in the Mankweng Policing area.

Lieutenant General Nkhuoa emphasized that the Deputy Minister's visit was focused on ensuring a secure and enjoyable holiday for all citizens. She stressed the importance of overseeing the implementation of the SAPS Festive Season Operational Plan, which aims to increase police visibility, prevent crime, and ensure a swift response to incidents.

In her address, Deputy Minister Boshielo urged officials to serve with pride, emphasizing the responsible use of their tools of trade and upholding the Constitution while ensuring criminals are held accountable.

Lieutenant General Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, called for improved collaboration among law enforcement agencies in order to realise impact clduring the Festive Season.

The entourage also visited a roadblock on the R71, where stop-and-search operations were conducted in partnership with the Department of Home Affairs and National and Provincial Traffic Police. This was followed by spaza shop compliance checks and a community engagement session at Paledi Mall.

The Deputy Minister and her entourage also visited the scenes of two fatal accidents that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 22 December 2024, along the N1 North at Motox, Botlokwa. The accidents, which occurred in the same area but at different times, claimed the lives of seven people and left 13 others hospitalized.

The operations led to numerous arrests and confiscations, including 15 suspects for crimes such as assault, malicious damage to property, and fraud. Additionally, 13 fines were issued for violations of the Liquor Act during raids at liquor outlets. Six illegal immigrants were arrested at the roadblock on the R71, and 38 traffic summons were issued, totaling R2,945. The operations highlighted the Province's ongoing commitment in ensuring that residents are and feel safe during this Festive Season.

LIMPOPO PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER GIVES MARCHING ORDERS TO NEWLY APPOINTED POLICE CONSTABLES

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo has deployed 74 newly appointed police Constables to various Districts to bolster crime prevention efforts during this festive season.

The new Constables have hit the ground running effective from today, 17 December 2024, ensuring the residents of this Province are and feel safe.

The Deputy Provincial Commissioner Policing, Major General Jan Scheepers advised the Constables to make correct choices for their future, prioritizing their safety and wearing bulletproof vests at all times.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed and addressed the Constables, emphasizing the importance of their role in ensuring the safety and security of Limpopo residents. The newly appointed Constables are expected to be proactive in preventing and combating crime, particularly during this holiday season and beyond. They will also be responsible for protecting residents's properties while they are on holidays as well as government infrastructure.

“Do not be generous to the criminals; they are very dangerous, make sure you arrest them for the right reasons. Ensure that you are operationally ready at all times and squeeze the space for criminals,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

This deployment is part of the SAPS's efforts to combat crime and maintain public safety during this festive season.

While on a patrol around Polokwane central business district (CBD), the newly appointed constables apprehended
five suspects, four males and one female, between the ages of 27 and 33, for possession of dagga and dangerous weapons.

The suspects are expected to appear before Polokwane Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 18 December 2024.

“We will continue intensifying our festive season operations through decisive police action as noted with the recent arrests of suspects in Polokwane CBD. These arrests will send a strong warning that criminals will be dealt with decisively in the province,” added Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
