Alfred Nzo District Municipality in partnership with Government Departments and non-governmental organization to officially launch Public Service Month, It is celebrated annually in September in South Africa. The purpose of Public Service Month is to encourage public servants to deliver quality services to the citizens of South Africa and to promote a culture of Batho Pele (people first) it is also aimed at raising awareness about the role of the public service and its impact on the lives of citizens as well as opening discussions on challenges that are faced by public servants and the people of which they are serving.
Government servants get to perform assessments by referring to their achievements, failures and where to do corrections for future purposes when serving the public better The Executive Mayor Cllr: Vukile Mhlelembana said “This is the time where government departments such as the department of Social Development, South African Police Services (SAPS), and department of Health, Home Affairs and others will get to reflect on the impact and role that they have played in building and delivering better services to the people of South Africa within the Alfred Nzo District. As this year marks 30 years of freedom, government departments together with municipalities should be able to provide the public with better and more advanced services”.
The Launch of Public Service Month to Zwelitsha Senior Secondary School comes as an intervention by government after the school received negative publicity due to the high rate of pregnancy. The Department of Health and Department of Social Development in the District working close with key stakeholders are expected to rendered service not only to the learners but to communities as well. Furthermore, Department of Social Development will lead a dialogue with learners as means to get to the bottom of the social ills affecting learners at the school.
