A DJ is an Employee that needs money to sustain its life too. To buy new music, headphones, etc. A DJ entertains your clients(who buys alcohol, food, etc), and they deserve if not FAIR Wages but Salaries. Event organisers don't USE their services in EXCHANGE of alcohol. They spend the whole weekend at your places to keep your customers happy, but gets back to their homes with empty hands but drunk. Money motivates & encourages them to do their best, so let's not take advantage of their desperation because they're from local, but remunirate them too for their sleepless nights.
DJs, you too should start signing up contracts to agree on certain terms & conditions. You might not be a professional disc jockey but a Father/Mother to your child who needs to be taken care of.
