KASEMPA RESIDENTS VOICE MIXED REACTIONS TO ONGOING CASH FOR WORK PROGRAM

Residents of Kasempa have expressed mixed concerns regarding the Cash for Work program currently being implemented in various wards of the district.

Speaking during the KFM Breakfast Show today, several residents voiced their concerns, particularly about the types of work being assigned.

Some residents feel that tasks such as working on drainage systems and improving township roads are being handed to individuals without the necessary expertise, as these tasks mostly require specialized skills.

They emphasized the importance of ensuring that more technical projects, like road and drainage construction, are handled by qualified professionals.

They also suggested that residents should be given more suitable and manageable jobs

In response, Kasempa Town Council Secretary Mrs. Bridget Liyungu Mung’andi clarified that the Cash for Work program is not something being imposed on the community.

She explained that the people themselves, through their Ward Development Committees (WDCs), are encouraged to decide what kind of work they want to engage in, with the aim of focusing on non-technical tasks that align with the skills available within the community.

However, she acknowledged that there is a challenge in compiling the required names and contact details of the participants because of a large number of people involved.

FARMERS IN KASEMPAEXPRESSES APPRECIATION FOR THE GOVERNMENT'S INTRODUCTION OF THE E-VOUCHER SYSTEM

Farmers in Kasempa have expressed their appreciation for the government's introduction of the E-Voucher system, which they say has significantly improved the accessibility and distribution of agricultural inputs.

Speaking on KFM's Breakfast Show, local farmer Enock Pelama commended the system for reducing theft within cooperative structures.

He noted that, under the new system, farmers now receive their Monies directly to their personal mobile phones, bypassing the need to entrust cooperative leaders with the responsibility of collecting and distributing input to Farmers.

However, he also pointed out that while the E-Voucher system is a positive step, there is still a need for the government to regulate input prices.

Mr. Pelama noted that high prices for agro-dealer inputs were still a significant challenge for many farmers, urging the government to ensure that these prices remain affordable to promote sustainable agricultural growth.

FARMERS IN KASEMPA BEMOAN THE SLOW PACE OF E-VOUCHER SYSTEM.

Farmers in Kasempa have raised concerns over the slow pace of redeeming farming inputs under the E-Voucher system.

Speaking on behalf of other famers during a Parliamentary open day interaction held at the Parliamentary Office on Monday 28, 2024, Morgan Kizela Kyamwina stated that if the system is not improved soon, this farming season will be badly affected.

He lamented the ongoing challenges with the E-Voucher system since its introduction and urged the government to address these issues promptly.

In response, Kasempa District Administrative Officer Francis Makanga assured farmers that all famers will receive fertilizer before the onset of the rainy season.

Mr. Makanga attributed the delays primarily to internet connectivity issues affecting the E-Voucher system.

Additionally, Mr. Makanga cautioned all CAC Leaders in the district against registering multiple family members with same names on the E-Voucher system, stating that this practice complicates the verification process and is detected by the system.

The situation he said is also contributing to slow pace of the system.
