LEBOPO CIRCUIT MANAGER GUNNED DOWN IN MANKWENG

| Limpopo Education MEC Mavhungu Lerule Ramakhanya has expressed sadness after the brutal killing of Lebopo Circuit Manager Mr Dr Johannes Malekutu Mehlape on Thursday evening.

It is alleged Dr Mehlape was shot by two assailants in a house invasion in his house at Mankweng.

Described as one of the brightest minds in the sector Ramakhanya said Mehlape who contributed immensely to the trajectory of the provinces results will be deeply missed as his passing leaves a vacuum in the department.

SEVEN ARRESTED FOR THEFT AT POLICE OFFICES

| Seven suspects including a Polokwane councillor have been arrested following a burglary at the Police Stock Theft Unit.

Police raided several properties in the Seshego area and arrested the men including a suspect wanted on charges of murder and robbery.

Fi****ms and ammunition stolen during the robbery were recovered and three vehicles seized.

15 YEAR OLD AMONG 33 MOTHERS WHO DELIVERED CHRISTMAS BABIES IN LIMPOPO

| A 15-year-old teenage girl was among the new mothers who delivered babies in Limpopo hospitals on Christmas Day, prompting concern from the provincial health department.

A total of 10 teenage mothers gave birth in various across the province on Christmas Day.

This is a decline from the 15 that the province had last year.

Mopani District had the highest number of births with 8 deliveries. Four boys and 04 girls.

MEC for Health in the Province Dr Phophi Ramathuba will this morning visit mothers and their babies across the province to check on them and wish them well.

TEACHER PAYS R5K FOR INKABI

| A LIMPOPO teacher has been arrested for allegedly plotting to kill his wife with an inkabi. Police pounced on the 45 year-old in Polokwane, Limpopo on Saturday, 23 December for conspiring to murder his wife.

Police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba says the suspect had already paid R5 000 of the agreed R15 000 for killing his wife when he was arrested.

Mashaba says the suspect will appear before court on Wednesday.

LIMPOPO SPECIALIST DOCTOR WHO ALLEGEDLY SWINDLED R1.2 MILLION FROM BONITAS MEDICAL SCHEME, RELEASED ON R1,500 BAIL

| It is alleged that between January 2014 and November 2016, the specialist submitted false documents to Bonitas medical aid scheme, and claimed medical expenses in cases where he did not render medical services.

“According to the reports, Dr Gololo conducted an awareness campaign at Zebediela. The attendees completed his self-made attendance register. He utilised their personal details from the register, submitted them to the Bonitas medical aid scheme alleging that he provided them with hearing impaired devices,” said Mmuroa

“The claim was processed and as a result, Bonitas medical aid scheme suffered a loss amount of over R1.2 million.”
A forensic audit was later conducted by the medical aid scheme.

“After noticing the shenanigans, they contacted Polokwane-based Hawks' serious commercial crime investigation (unit) for assistance. The Hawks' investigations revealed that none of the victims was aware of the claims and did not experience any hearing difficulties,” said Mmuroa.

'HOLIDAY SWINDLER' ACCUSED OF DEFRAUDING LIMPOPO HOLIDAY COMPANIES OF MILLIONS SOUGHT BY POLICE

| A warrant of arrest has been issued for Francois Swart, (39), whose Fourways based travel agency Priority Escapes stands accused of defrauding holiday companies in Modimolle of millions of rands.

It is alleged amongst the scores of companies, he defrauded two companies of more than R260 000 after being paid to fulfil holiday arrangements on their behalf.

Police have appealed to the public to assist detectives with information of the whereabouts of Swart.

| 18 year old Limpopo young model Kamogelo Makgatho has been crowned Miss Teen Universe.

The Bendor born teen won the prestigious crown on Sunday, 17 December 2023 at the Emperor's Palace in Johannesburg.

This is by far the biggest feat for Makgatho who has been modeling for over 10 years managing to win Miss Capricorn District Teen amongst many others.

BUS ON INTERNATIONAL TRIP DETAINED IN POLOKWANE

| A bus travelling from Johannesburg to Zimbabwe has been detained in Polokwane by Traffic law enforcement officials on Sunday, 17 December 2023.

The bus detained at the Traffic Control Centre in Polokwane was found to have exceeded its load capacity by 1700 kgs when weighed and the driver subsequently fined R6000.

An overloaded vehicle is hazardous to other road users and difficult for drivers to steer said Chief Director for Transport Regulation Jane Mulaudzi.

MAHWELERENG METERED TAXI DRIVER ARRESTED FOR HOUSE ROBBERY

| Limpopo police arrested a metered Taxi driver linked to a house robbery that took place in Mahwelereng last week.

According to the information, three suspects entered the home of a 34-year-old man and attacked him. The victim was assaulted with fists and a beer bottle and a laptop and cellphone were taken.

The police were notified about the incident and a case of house robbery opened and detectives commenced investigations and the 29-year-old metered taxi driver was tracked down and arrested in Mahwelereng on Saturday afternoon, 16 December 2023. The used motor vehicle, Toyota Avanza was also recovered.

Manhunt for the remaining suspects continues.

POLICE SEARCH FOR SEVEN ARMED SUSPECTS AFTER SUPERMARKET ROBBERY IN BOTLOKWA

| Police in Botlokwa seek information that can assist in the arrest of seven armed suspects following a business robbery that left one person injured and an undisclosed amount of money and other valuables stolen. The incident allegedly took place at Mokomene Supermarket.

It is alleged, a group of about seven suspects entered the premises in the early hours of Sunday, 17 December 2023 while the shop operator and his brother were asleep in the back room of the supermarket. The shop operator heard some walls breaking and the suspects then started firing shots through the broken walls. The shop operator's brother got shot multiple times. He was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

The victims alleged that they were robbed of an undisclosed amount of money, groceries, airtime voucher machine and cellphones.

Police have opened a case of business robbery.

STOKVEL CLUB IN LIMPOPO ROBBED
| A stokvel club has been robbed of its year-long savings at gunpoint at Maake Bokgaga village outside Tzaneen in Limpopo.

Police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba says unknown robbers arrived at a woman’s house at night, demanded bank cards and pins in which the money was saved and fled.

Mashaba says no arrests have been made, “According to reports the complainant was sleeping at her house when unknown suspects came into her house and demanded bank cards and pins at a gunpoint. She complied and they robbed her off an undisclosed amount of money belonging to the stokvel club. She reported the incident to the police a case of house robbery was opened and a manhunt was immediately activated.”

MOTORIST ROBBED AT GUNPOINT ON N1 NEAR MUSINA

| A motorist was robbed of an undisclosed sum of money by armed individuals on the N1 to Musina Next to Baobab tollgate in Limpopo on the 16 December 2023 at around 02:20. According to police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba, the victim, traveling with passengers, had his vehicle obstructed by the robbers in two sedans. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

“The complainant recounted that he and five other passengers were driving when their vehicle was blocked by suspects in a silver VW Golf GTI and a silver VW Polo. The suspects, brandishing fi****ms, proceeded to rob them of cell phones and an undisclosed amount of money before making their escape. The victim promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to the opening of an armed robbery case as efforts are under way to locate and apprehend the suspects.”

| An alleged 27-year-old dating scammer and his 32 years old accomplice have been remanded in custody after they appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court, following their arrest earlier this week.

The two, Yiga Siraje Lubega and Rhoda Betsey Mirembe, are accused of working collaboratively to scam an unsuspecting 39-year-old Limpopo woman, who lost more than R600,000 after meeting and getting into a romantic relationship with Lubega.

LIMPOPO OUTLINES FESTIVE EMS CONTINGENCY PLAN

| Limpopo’s Health MEC, Phophi Ramathuba, says they have put in place contingency plans to provide emergency services at health facilities and major roads during the festive season.

Speaking at the unveiling of the ambulance fleet in Mankweng, outside Polokwane, Ramathuba says the 75 new ambulances are part of R500 million to R600 million being allocated across the province.

“I want to know who is the manager on call from today until January 13 somewhere. When the schools opened, diesel must have been adequate. They must also report to me about the issue of water, which is very critical. I will be expecting each CEO to represent me. I want to hold them accountable.

LIMPOPO POLICE WARN OF SURGE IN LOVE CRIMINALS AFTER WOMAN LOSES R650 000

| A suspected 27-year-old dating scammer and his 32-years-old accomplice are on Thursday expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court, following their arrest earlier this week.

This comes after he met a 39 year old woman in Polokwane in September and they started dating.
After which he later introduced her to a 'Prophetess' after she relayed her problems to him.

The woman said “In one of the prayer sessions, the prophetess came driving a BMW X6, carrying R4 million hard cash in a bag. And she was told the money was hers, from her ancestors, but she had to pay 10 percent of the total amount in order to get it.”

As the 39-year-old woman did not have money, she went to the bank and applied for a loan of R650,000 and she gave it to the “prophetess”.

When she later tried to reach them they were unavailable.
She found out that the scammers had also used her particulars fraudulently to rent a house at the Woodhill Estate in Polokwane after she was contacted for payments.

A case was registered and the docket referred to the Hawks and subsequent to that the house at the Woodhill Estate was visited by police and no one was found but a white Mercedes Benz and BMW X6 which the suspects were using were seized.

On December 12, Maluleke said information was received that another Mercedes-Benz vehicle that was used by the boyfriend had been spotted in Potchefstroom, North West province.

“Through a proper coordination, the vehicle was followed and the suspect, together with his accomplice, were arrested,” the Hawks said.

This after allegations of pregnant women seen on the social media collect water for themselves to bathe and use toilets after the hospital failed to provide them with water.

The MEC conceded to water challenges within the Municipality and promised they have engaged the District and local Municipalities to deliver water to the hospital on a daily basis.

11 YEAR OLD GIRL R***D AND STABBED IN SESHEGO

| The Seshego Community Against Crime and Gangsterism has condemned an incident where an 11-year-old girl from Spook Park outside Seshego was allegedly r***d and stabbed after she went out to play with her friends.

SCACAG chairperson Vincent Kunutu says they stepped in to assist the girl’s family after a picture showing her clothes scattered on the ground made rounds on social media on Sunday.

Kunutu says after they located the girl, she was taken to the doctor who confirmed she was r***d and stabbed.

He says there are unconfirmed reports that suspects are local people known to the girl and as a result, she is in a place of safety until the police confirm their arrest.

A case of r**e and attempted murder has been opened with Seshego police.

Blouberg driving licence centre services suspended following break-in

| Services at the Blouberg Municipal Driving License Testing Centre in Senwabarwana remain suspended today following a break-in last week, resulting in the theft of the eNatis server.

The Electronic National Administration Traffic Information System or eNatis is used for registration and licensing of motor vehicles and driving licences and professional driving permits, amongst others.

No cash or documents were stolen, leaving the municipality to speculate this may be an act of sabotage at the centre.

Municipal spokesperson Peter Moruthane says the matter has been reported to the police.

DENDRON BRIGHT CHILD WINS AFRICAN SPELLING BEE CHAMPIONSHIP

| Lesedi Seemane, a 13-year-old learner from Dendron Primary School won the 2023 African Spelling Bee Champion in Uganda this past weekend says she is excited to bring the trophy home.

A welcoming ceremony was held for Seemane at the Limpopo Education Head of Department’s office in Polokwane where she was received by the HOD, Onica Dederen.

Seemane says she started taking part in spelling bee competitions in grade 4 and hopes to continue with it in high school.

She says her experience of competing on a world stage for this title is unmatched, further adding that it took a lot of months of hard work and preparation.

| Multi-award winning musician Zahara (real name Bulelwa Mkutukana) has passed away. The hitmaker died at a private Johannesburg Hospital on Monday night. Fiancé Mpho Xaba was by her bedside.

The Loliwe hitmaker was admitted in hospital with liver complications two weeks ago. A source close to the muso said that the singer passed away just before 9pm.

“The family will release a statement soon. She was with Mpho when she passed away,” the source added.

| The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications has announced its complete recall of Econo Cement 32.5N from all distributors and retail outlets.

The regulatory body has found that the cement failed to meet the minimum requirements for the prescribed strength in the construction process.

MOGALAKWENA LUTHERAN CHURCH ELDERS DIE IN BUS CRASH

| Seven elderly members of the Mogalakwena Lutheran Church died when their bus overturned on the R37 Lydenburg in Mpumalanga on Saturday.

The deceased were a part of a group of ‘golden boys and girls’, who were travelling to Mpumalanga for a Church activity. Their bus reportedly overturned due to a tyre puncture.

52 members of the same church suffered injuries during the same accident. The bus was travelling from Mokopane in Limpopo to Sabie for the church event.

Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani, has sent messages of condolences to the families of the victims and also wished a speedy recovery to the survivors. The MEC has expressed her sadness over this incident, which claimed the lives of elderly citizens who were travelling to a place of worship.

| South African Police Service has raised concerns with the exodus of the force's elite Special Task Force (STF), members are said to be leaving in droves to join private security companies where they can earn up to three times their salaries, often as protectors for high-risk businessmen and taxi bosses.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says the resignations of elite Special Task Force members from law enforcement, many of whom are joining private security companies, is worrying.
Mkhwanazi said from just over 53 officers they're only remaining with 15 members in the province now.

BURGERSFORT MAN KILLS HIS WIFE AND HANGS HIMSELF FROM THE ROOF

| A 50-year-old man allegedly killed his 30-year-old wife and hanged himself at Bothashoek, Burgersfort on Friday morning.

It is alleged that the victim was at her residence when the suspect visited her. He stabbed her six times with a knife and fled the scene.

The police received the information and traced the suspect to his residence in Bothashoek. Upon arrival, they also found the suspect hanging from the roof with an electric cord cable.

LIMPOPO POLICE COME DOWN HARD ON ILLEGAL MINING

| As the fight against illegal mining continues, the police in Limpopo have arrested one suspected illegal miner and 13 undocumented foreign nationals during a multi-disciplinary disruptive operation conducted on Wednesday, 06 December 2023 in Capricorn District. Police also opened two inquest dockets.

The team received information about suspects’ illegally mining gold near Eersteling Farm in Westenburg policing area. Information was operationalised and the team pounced on the illegal miners who fled the scene. A 38-year-old suspect was arrested and the bodies of two suspected illegal miners, believed to have suffocated underground were found next to the mining site.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the deceased were operating during the night and their bodies were recovered by fellow illegal miners who left in the morning.

Police seized 21 bags containing unfinished raw materials.

POLOKWANE EPWP RECRUITMENT FAVOURS ANC CADRES

| The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Polokwane will at the next council meeting submit a petition for a fair and transparent appointment process, and a legislated policy that must be available on the municipal website.

The DA notes that the Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, John Mpe, launched the 2000 environmental development youth empowerment programme, but we are concerned about the process that was used to evaluate and select 2000 youth from the thousands of applicants.

The independent investigation by Bowman-Gilfillan found that Polokwane Municipality did not have an EPWP recruitment policy.

The report further indicated:
The possibility of ghost employees due to lack of record keeping.
The role of councillors in appointing EPWP workers should be investigated to test allegations of interference and nepotism; and
Councillors could have been in contravention with the municipal systems Act Schedule 1 code of conduct section 11.

POLICE INTERCEPT TAXIS CARRYING SUSPECTED HUMAN TRAFFICKING VICTIMS

| Police in Polokwane, Limpopo, have halted ten minibus taxis transporting approximately 133 individuals suspected to be victims of human trafficking. This group intercepted on the N1 South in Polokwane comprises both adults and unaccompanied children.

This development comes in the wake of last week’s announcement by the Border Management Authority that they had intercepted 42 buses carrying more than 440 unaccompanied children from Zimbabwe at the Beitbridge border post in Musina, Limpopo.

MANKWENG GBV SPIKE CAUSE FOR CONCERN - DEPARTMENT OF SPORT ARTS AND CULTURE

| The Deputy minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nocawe Mafu was on Wednesday 06 December at Mankweng Community Hall to launch the NQOBA iGBVF initiative which aims to amplify the anti-GBVF message and to harness collective efforts to address the scourge of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

The minister said rising gender based violence cases in Mankweng was a cause for concern she said everytime the minister of police releases the statistics Mankweng it is in the top 10.

The police in Mankweng said they're also concerned in the number of ladies who report cases and later withdraw them saying it is reversing the gains in curbing the scourge.
