HUGO BROOS IS UNDERRATED 🇨🇲🇿🇦👏🏼

He led a Cameroon side to the trophy in 2017, which had almost no big names in it.

Heading into the tournament, Cameroon was ranked 62nd in the world and 12th in Africa.

In their run to the title triumph, they defeated Africa's number one ranked side Senegal in the quarter-finals, Africa's ninth-ranked side Ghana in the semi-finals, and Africa's third-ranked side Egypt in the finals.

For the AFCON 2023 tournament, South Africa, under Broos, has a 23-man squad with 20 players plying their trade in the South African league, two players from Europe, and one player from Al-Ahly in Egypt.

Many predicted they would suffer an early elimination due to a perceived lack of quality in their squad. Their star player, Lyle Forster, who plays for Burnley, even decided to be omitted, stating that he wasn't mentally fit enough for the tournament. South Africa finished second in Group D with four points, losing only against Mali and defeating Namibia, while drawing with Tunisia, who are ranked 3rd in Africa.

Now, they have just defeated Africa's number one ranked side and the 13th ranked team in the world, Morocco, with a 2-0 victory, securing qualification for the quarter-finals. South Africa is ranked 66th in the world and 12th in Africa.

South Africa will play Cape Verde in the Quarter Finals.

Will Hugo Broos go on to become only the second manager, after Herve Renard, to win the AFCON with two different countries?

SOUTH AFRICA MOVES TO ALERT LEVEL 1

President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on Sunday 28 February 2021, on developments in the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The address followed meetings in recent days of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC), the President’s Coordinating Council (PCC) and Cabinet.

Ramaphosa announced that based on an assessment of the current state of the pandemic in the country, Cabinet decided to move the country from Coronavirus Alert Level 3 to Alert Level 1

At the time of publishing South Africa had more than 1,5 million positive COVID-19 cases and 49,941 deaths.

The new alert level will come into effect later this evening and will mean that:

🕛The hours of the Curfew will now be from 12 midnight to 4am.
⛪️Gatherings will be permitted, subject to limitations on size, adherence to social distancing and other health protocols.
These include religious, social, political and cultural.
💯 The maximum number of people allowed at any gathering is 100 people indoors or 250 people outdoors.
Where the venue is too small to accommodate these numbers with appropriate social distancing, then no more than 50 per cent of the capacity of the venue may be used.
🌌 Night vigils or other gatherings before or after funerals are still not permitted. Nightclubs will remain closed.
🥂The sale of alcohol will be permitted, according to normal licence provisions. However, no alcohol may be sold during the hours of curfew.
😷 The wearing of masks in public places is still mandatory, and failure to wear a mask when required remains a criminal offence.
🛬 The 33 land border posts that have been closed throughout this period will remain closed, while the other 20 will remain open.
Only five airports will be open for international travel with standard infection control measures. These are OR Tambo, Cape Town, King Shaka, Kruger Mpumalanga and Lanseria airports.

Breaking News

Former President Jacob Zuma was supposed to appear before the State Capture Commission on Monday .

Former President Jacob Zuma has again hit back at the State Capture Commission saying he would rather go to jail than testify before it.

He was supposed to appear before the Commission on Monday, but instead, he sent a letter to the Commission through his lawyers that he would not appear before the Commission.

Zuma’s lawyers said he would not appear because the Constitutional Court was due to hear their client’s application for the Commission’s chairperson Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’s recusal and that the summons issued for his appearance was illegal.

In a 12 page scathing letter released on social media, he says there is nothing that will make him change his mind about the State Capture Commission.

However, he states that he respects the rule of law in the country, but he will never appear before a process that he describes as impartial.
