DISRUPTION OF WATER SUPPLY AT SOME PARTS OF ONVERWACHT DUE TO A PIPE BURST

Residents are hereby informed that there is a pipe burst at fontien single street. Water supply is interrupted, and surrounding areas will not have water until the repair work is completed.

Municipal water team is currently on site busy with the repair work. We anticipate that the work will be completed at 16H00.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF THE LEBOMBO PORT OF ENTRY DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS ON THE MOZAMBICAN SIDE

The Commissioner of the Border Management Authority (BMA), Dr Michael Masiapato has received reports of vehicles being torched on the Mozambican side of the Lebombo Port of Entry. Due to these security incidents and in the interest of public safety, the port has been temporarily closed until further notice.

This decision was made to ensure the safety of all cross-border transporters, travellers, traders and officials operating at the port. The BMA is coordinating closely with Mozambican authorities and South African law enforcement agencies to monitor the situation and work towards reopening the port as soon as it is safe to do so.

“We advise all stakeholders to suspend travel through Lebombo Port until further notice. Alterative routes to Mozambique must be used where feasible, at the moment until the situation has stabilised”, Commissioner Dr Masiapato said.

“All South African officials are on the ground providing assistance with seven officials from the Mozambican side having requested refuge on the South African side for safety and protection. The BMA and its counterparts are working urgently to address the situation, and we are appreciating the cooperation we are receiving at the moment”, he added.

The BMA and SARS will continue to provide real-time updates through official channels and notify stakeholders as soon as the port is deemed safe for reopening.

ROAD OPEN| The accident scene on the R510 road near Molalatau Lodge in Lephalale, Waterberg District, has been cleared following a crash involving three heavy motor vehicles earlier this morning.

One driver tragically lost their life, while another sustained injuries. We extend our condolences to the bereaved family and wish the injured driver a speedy recovery.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.

A serious accident involving three trucks occurred this morning, Thursday, 31 October, on the R510, about 12 km on the Vaalwater road. A fourth vehicle sustained damage while attempting to avoid the collision. The R510 is closed till further notice. For the full report, read the edition of 8 November.

REPAIR OF POTHOLES AT WALTER SISULU ROAD

In an effort to improve road infrastructure, the Municipality hereby informs residents that the Municipal Public Works Team has today commenced with the process to patch potholes along Walter Sisulu Street. It is anticipated that the work will be completed on Friday.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution when driving along the road during this period.
