As part of preparations for the up comming state of the province address, the Premier has embarked on an operation Siyahlola. Through this operation the Premier and members of the executive council will be crisscrossing the province and paying visits to various projects and service delivery points.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala launched a massive roll-out of Operation Vula Fund disbursements worth millions, which included the handing over of equipment and business instruments to enterprises who had successfully applied for support. The launch took place on Wednesday, 27 October 2021.

The programme, which took place in the Umkhanyakude District Municipality, forms part of provincial government’s efforts to create jobs and grow the economy.

During the launch, Premier Zikalala handed over to successful beneficiaries of the Operation Vula Fund catering equipment, vehicles, computers, and farming implements. The equipment will be disbursed to small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) who have been selected as successful applicants.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala has paid tribute to all the women of uManyano, describing them as a living institution that is at the heart of building our nation.
Premier Zikalala was speaking during the 8th Triennial Convention of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa in Margate on the South Coast today, 30 September 2021.
Premier Zikalala said the historical records shows that uManyano is the brain child of the Methodist Church women, who formed uManyano in order to confront the prevailing issues that affected women at the time.

“UManyano, which was established in 1907, offered rural women support in the psychological challenges they experienced as a result of the migrant labour system which saw families separated for long periods of time.
Rural women became pillars of strength in raising families while their husbands were digging for gold and diamonds in the mines. This was no mean feat as women continued to face multiple forms of oppression; as they buckled under the yoke of gender and racial oppression.
Women continued to build united and resilient families despite the oppressive odds piled against them. We salute the Women of Manyano for remaining resolute during testing times of hardship and oppression,” said Premier Zikalala.

“In this regard, uManyano was established as a fighting mechanism which saw it evolve from a strictly religious institution to the one that focused on strategies to cope with the devastating results of apartheid rule.
One woman who is a member of the Manyano gathering had this to say about the importance of uManyano: “Whenever I see a Manyano woman, I see a woman who has the world in her hands and has the power to make things change because of the power that is prayer.”In Manyano, women hold a very powerful weapon. Manyano women are prayer warriors. They use prayer as a potent weapon to fight all forms of challenges,” said Premier Zikalala.

Inanda residents brace for power outage as city goes ahead with maintenance work.

Residents living around Ntuzuma are advised of a planned power outage at the Ntuzuma substation due to maintenance work.

Spokesperson for the eThekwini Municipality, Msawakhe Mayisela, said the maintenance forms part of improving the reliability and quality of power supply.

“The outage is due to take place on Thursday August 19 from 8am to 4pm,” Mayisela said.

He added that Inanda, Glebelands, KwaMashu (H and M sections), and Ntuzuma (A, B, E, F and G sections) may be affected.

He added by saying Residents are urged to note the planned power outage and plan accordingly.

The City appealed for patience while the maintenance work is being carried out and apologized for the inconvenience.

All customers are urged to treat installations as live.

THIRTEEN (13) DESKTOP COMPUTERS HAVE BEEN HANDED OVER AS A DONATION BY MANCOSA AT
KOKSTAD MANAGEMENT AREA, THE 18TH OF AUGUST 2021.
The Management College of Southern Africa (MANCOSA) is a private higher distance education institution
offering affordable and accessible management education primarily to persons previously denied access to
postgraduate education in South Africa.
In this regard Kokstad Management Area has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) with MANCOSA for the intention of maximising the scope of rehabilitation system, addressing and
inculcating the culture of skills development for self-sufficiency on inmates. Whilst, the
purpose for the establishment of computer based learning centres is to provide inmates with a secure
environment to utilize technology for study purposes, train them to become computer literate so that they can participate well in this corporate world we are in.
Therefore, these computers will assist in computer skills development for 206 inmates currently enrolled in Formal
Education within Kokstad Management Area.

Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Honourable Ronald Lamola today at Modderbee Correctional Centre in Benoni Gauteng welcomed 1068 fully fledged Correctional Officers after completing programs of learnership.

This was virtual address whereby he had to be connected with all Provinces and their Management Areas through virtual meeting. This was done with the aim of adhering to COVID-19 protocols that is rattling and bringing the world to its knees.

Minister Lamola said is the important day in Department of Correctional Services whereby new cadres will be operating in new enviroment" You will infuse new energy; always learn and train. It is not the end of the world continue studying; I will be happy that in 05 years time amongst you emerge Correctional Officers with Masters; Honours and Doctorates. We don't want people who will resting in their laurels" said Lamola.

He emphasised that they must commit to be ethical and make sure that they are not part of those who would be corrupt and must be known as positive ambassadors of Department of Correctional Services.

Kokstad Management Area which comprises of 05 Correctional Centres Matatiele; Ebongweni C-Max; Kokstad Medium; Port Shepstone and Umzimkhulu Correctional Centre had pleasure 88 fully fledged Correctional Centre.

The Acting Area Commissioner Chaplain Viwe Lokwe was very happy to have these new Correctional Officers. " We hope that you will be agent of change and assist us in rehabilitation of offenders" said Lokwe.

Last Saturday morning Buyafuthi "come again" hiking club from Kokstad hiked at Ingeli forest.

It is a newly established hiking club with the aim of promoting healthy leaving life style. "We are promoting healthy leaving life style since we have aerobics team based at Eco Park in Shayamoya; this mountain hiking is also part of exercise" said Sinazo Gceba aerobics instructor at Buyafuthi club.

About twenty eight 28 team members and from from Emaxesibeni managed to finish this walk. The team said they can't wait to finish another new challenge like climbing another Mountain.

Gceba emphasised that Shayamoya and Kokstad will never be the same again in terms happy healthy leaving life style people must come in droves to join this happy united family.

Hiking is mind relaxing whilst promoting fitness and the love of nature. It makes us to connect with nature; while we learn about caring and loving of environment. We also learn about about protected species of trees and grass and also the invesive species around us.

Today Department of Correctional Services in Kokstad Medium Correctional Centre celebrated offenders who excelled academically previous year.

The Acting Area Commissioner Bonginkosi Mavuso said it is important to be a purpose driven individual in life and also emphasised that it is important to acquire and arm with skills and knowledge. "If you are given opportunity use it wisely because competition is very though in the outside community. To those who have not yet started studying and empowering themselves with knowledge please do so and it is not yet late" said Mavuso.

The function was attended by three ex offenders who are doing well after doing their term inside Correctional Centres.

Ex offender who turned prolific business man by the name of Vuyisile Tshobeni said it is important to choose friends when you in prison."When I came hear I was only armed with matric and running a barber shop. But now I have empowered myself with chain of qualifications; I'm a director of two funeral polours and teacher" said Tshobeni. He ended by saying he did not allow prison uniform to define who he is.

Some of the certificates were recieved by offenders allow them to be in the job market like End user computer with 69 credits and recognised by South African Qualification Authority "SAQA". Some have been skilled with building and plastering and beauty and nail technology.

As department we felt it will be befitting to ask people who have been in the similar situation to come and motivate them. We have success stories that we pride ourselves with when it comes to rehabilitation of offenders. We will never cease to empower them with skills and knowledge so to become responsible and better citizens.
