Stolen cellphones worth over R500,000 and explosives recovered in Bankhara Kuruman. Three Suspects aged between 40 and 58 were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and explosives.

The police members were activated following information received from the North West Province that revealed that cellphones were stolen during a business burglary and the consignment was secured with a tracking device.

The members immediately followed the tracker locations and traced the assailants and recovered 145 cellphones valued at approximately R520 000 as well as new clothing items that are believed to have been stolen during the burglary.

The government has extended the deadline for the registration of spaza shops and other food-handling shops to 28 February 2025.

Responding to a spate of deaths due to contaminated food bought from spaza shops and informal traders, President Cyril Ramaphosa last month directed that all spaza shops and other food-handling facilities be registered with municipalities within 21 days.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa said the government "still needs to do more work to ensure that the sector is properly regulated and adheres to health regulations".

Thirteen people died in a head-on collision between an SUV and a minibus taxi on the N9 outside Graaff-Reinet in the early hours of Monday.

According to reports the Mazda CX-5, which had six occupants, collided with a fully loaded minibus taxi travelling from the Western Cape to the Eastern Cape.

All six occupants of the SUV died at the scene, along with seven passengers from the minibus taxi.
