As you look at all the successful people around you, the ones in the spotlight, the ones who get the slaps on the back and the “well done’s”, yeah, it’s easy to come off feeling second best.
Looking back, one of the things that I truly regret in my life is how the world’s template of success was somehow dropped on my head – leading me into a world of pain that I otherwise could’ve avoided.
I firmly believed that success was everything – having the fanciest car amongst my peer group, an impressive house with one of those picture-perfect front lawns, wearing expensive clothes.
How did that ruin my life? It robbed me of my most important relationships – in fact, of pretty much all my relationships – because in steering my success juggernaut, I didn’t care who I ran over.
When it all came crashing down, I was absolutely certain that no one would want any part of me.
Mark 2:13-14 Jesus went to the lake again, and many people followed him there. So Jesus taught them. He was walking beside the lake, and he saw a man named Levi, son of Alphaeus. Levi was sitting at his place for collecting taxes. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” Then Levi stood up and followed Jesus.
Right here, Jesus with His miracle-working rockstar status that emptied whole towns when He arrived, invites a dirty, rotten, despised, ostracised tax collector – Levi – to follow Him.
Make no mistake. No matter how far you may have fallen, how hopeless a case you may feel yourself to be, the loving eye of the Lord is upon you. Jesus.
