DSAC PUBLISHING HUB BOOK LAUNCH
DSAC PUBLISHING HUB BOOK LAUNCH
26 NOVEMBER 2024, FREEDOM PARK HERITAGE SITE, PRETORIA
The voice of the author is relied on to narrate the ideas, demands, thoughts, inventions and stories of our past, present and future. Just recently, a part of the Special Collections Library at the University of Cape Town, which housed one of the largest African Studies collections, burned down, taking with it invaluable and irreplaceable portions of knowledge produced in Africa, in the form of the written word. In a few devastating moments, an unfathomable amount of Africa’s rich heritage, captured by authors and other knowledge producers, was erased.
The aim of the Power of Authors virtual conference is to explore the role of authors in the advance of science and art. As contributors to the world’s knowledge production, authors have the opportunity to effect change by deepening our understanding of the world and laying the foundation for generations to build on. They also speak out to expose crime, corruption and injustice. That is what we mean by the Power of Authors.
