My 20/40 window in 2024….

Not only celebrating 🥳 40 years but 20 years in the media industry as a professional photographer….

Photography was not a popular profession at all when it came to the black community. Either you became doctor, nurse, lawyer an accountant and etc.

Growing up I’ve always thought I’ll be an accountant. But thank the Lord my brother saw what God had in me. An eye to see things differently and create things. I’m not just a photographer I’m a story teller and have enjoyed every milestone.

As I reflect back, I thank my mother and brother huge supporters in my life. Mom she believed in me when the rest of the external family were saying “how can you allow your daughter ukuba ubashuthe?”. Little side note is you do remember that obashuthi were those uncle who will walk around the neighbourhood take image for R5 or R10. They did great work as some those images of our childhood where documented by them, yet they were considered low class not a real work. Yet those images today plays a huge role in one’s life.

My mother stood boldly and said I support my child and let her be as long as she’s happy 😊. Upon hearing those words they made me to go for mine and never looked back.

In my first year in photography via DUT I got 2 books published when I was 19 years… these books where even recognise internationally, at age of 19years. from documentary photography, to being photojournalist and now owner of my own company . God has been good to me.

I’m a one blessed Bashuthi! I will do it all over again I have not regrets…. My photos have traveled internationally…even Exhibiting in China 🇨🇳…. I’m proud of what one has accomplished and still striving for more…

Dear 20 years thank you 🙏🏾 so much for being good to me… and to many more…

They may look down upon you, even go as further will you ever get a job with what you are studying 📖… don’t let them kill your dream for Lord is the only one who knows what he has put inside of you… therefore you will always have work!

Dear Lord Jesus I am grateful for your GRACE UPON MY LIFE…

To 20 more years and beyond! And yes I’ll die being u Gogo’bashuthi 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙌🏾🙌🏾💛
