Rev. Musa Zondi Announces New Entities and Leadership Following Mergers in KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa – June 25, 2024: The newly-appointed MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa. K Zondi, today announced the creation of new entities and their leadership teams following a significant rationalisation process. This strategic initiative aims to streamline operations, enhance service delivery, eliminate duplications, and create efficiencies within the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA).

As part of the national programme to rationalise public entities, four public entities have been merged into two new entities. This move is expected to improve the delivery of services in a cost-effective manner and foster economic growth within the province. The legislative framework for these changes was approved by the legislature in the sixth administration and publicised in the government gazette on May 24, 2024.

Entity 1: The KwaZulu-Natal Economic Regulatory Authority (KZNERA)
Formed through the merger of the KZN Liquor Authority and KZN Gaming and Betting Board, KZNERA will regulate and empower the gambling and liquor industries in KwaZulu-Natal.

Entity 2: KwaZulu-Natal Tourism and Film Authority (KZNTAFA)
KZNTAFA results from the merger of KZN Tourism and the KZN Film Commission. The entity will focus on marketing and promoting the tourism and audio-visual industries, facilitating sector development, creating sustainable growth and job opportunities, and addressing historical imbalances in infrastructure, skills, and resource distribution.

• Interim CEO: Mr Sibusiso Gumbi

Entity 3: KwaZulu-Natal Growth Fund Agency (KZNGFA)
This funding agency’s Act has been approved for listing under the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). KZNGFA aims to support sustainable growth by financing private sector projects that drive economic success, stimulate job creation, provide broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE), and reduce inequality.

• Interim CEO: Ms Tshidi Ikaneng

Entity 4: Moses Kotane Research Institute (MKRI)
The institute’s Act has also been approved for PFMA listing. MKRI will conduct economic research, promote innovation, and coordinate training and development interventions tailored to the needs of the provincial economy.

• Acting CEO: Advocate Thembelihle Mapipa

“These appointments mark a significant step in the establishment and operationalisation of these entities, aimed at fostering economic growth, regulatory oversight, research advancement, and tourism development within KwaZulu-Natal. Each appointee brings a wealth of expertise and leadership, positioning these entities for success in their respective fields. We look forward to their strategic guidance and contributions as we embark on this journey of growth and prosperity,” said MEC Zondi.

The KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs extends its congratulations to the newly appointed Board Chairpersons and CEOs and anticipates their leadership will guide these merged entities towards greater success and sustainability.

Joël Landry Tsafack Nguémo (28 November 1985 – 27 June 2024) was a Cameroonian professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder for Nancy, Bordeaux and Saint-Étienne in France and for Scottish club Celtic on loan. Nguémo played for the Cameroon national team from 2006 until 2014, including at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. From 2020 until his death in 2024, he coached youth football teams, one of which was Nancy.

ANC KZN and its structures is comforting IFP members injured in a bus accident

Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme House: The African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal leadership and all structures are comforting members of the IFP who were involved in a bus accident this morning. They were travelling to Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Our hearts are with those who were unfortunately injured, and we wish them a speedy recovery.

As the ANC, we wish to announce that Deputy Chair Cde Nomagugu Simelane, in her capacity as MEC for Health, and Deputy Secretary Cde Sipho Hlomuka, in his capacity as MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, have activated their respective teams of dedicated professionals.

A team of healthcare professionals will ensure that quality healthcare is provided to the injured. On the other hand, traffic authorities will investigate the circumstances surrounding this accident.

Where necessary, the MEC for Social Development, Nonhlanhla Khoza, will ensure that psychological trauma counseling is provided by social workers to the injured and surviving members .

IFP members, like members of any other political party throughout the length and breadth of this province, have a right to be treated as equals in the land of their birth. This is what the ANC fought for.

Importantly, the maturing democracy enjoins all of us to hold hands and be with those who are in distress at all times.

Our country will never be prosperous or free until all our people live in brotherhood, enjoying equal rights and opportunities with no distinction based on political affiliation.

As the ANC, we are calling upon all freedom-loving people in this province to resist any attempt to divide us as indigenous people. Contesting elections is part of a democratic process, but it should NOT turn us into bitter enemies.

We make this statement to contextualize the fact that hatred amongst indigenous people is only promoted by beneficiaries of the then-inhumane and morally bankrupt regime called Apartheid.

Today, all leaders of the ANC are visiting churches and other places of worship to pray for peace and unity as we approach the general elections.

Too little too late for vibrant Togo. Reports: and

The Togolese National Team produced one of their best performances in their quest for qualifying for the . They beat 2-0 at in with goals from A.SK Denkey and E.Placca Fesson who scored in the 14th minute and 92nd minute respectively.

It was a game of two halves as Togo dominated the first half and Eswatini closed strongly in the second half .

Togo held on gallantly to their lead and even stretched the lead in Referees optional time in a match which they had 14 shots with 8bof them being on target. The Togolese amazed a total of 355 passes for the entire game which signified an improvement from their last clash with Eswatini

It's a case of too little too late for the Togolese after Cape Verde buried Burkina Faso 3-1 at home. That result ended any slim hopes of Togo sneaking in via the backdoor as Cape Verde are now on joint 10 points thereby taking the first two qualifying spots in Group B.
Togo's next match against Cape Verde in September will be purely academic and thus simply a dead rubber as there is no way they can qualify for Afcon.
