AFRICA, IT’S TIME TO BELIEVE IN OUR OWN

The story of George Stinney Jr. is one that still shakes the conscience of humanity.
At just 14 years old, this young boy of African descent became the youngest person to be executed in the United States in the 20th century.

Accused of killing two white girls — Betty (11) and Mary (7) — George was denied justice from the start. His trial lasted only two hours; the jury was entirely white; his parents were barred from the courtroom under threat; and he faced death alone — without a lawyer, without defense, and without the chance to see his family again.

On that dark day, 5,380 volts of electricity ended his life — not because he was guilty, but because he was Black.
Seventy years later, the State of South Carolina finally admitted what we always knew: George was innocent.

This is not just a story about one boy — it is a symbol of how the system was never built for us. The tragedy is not only in the past; it still lives in the policies, trade systems, and mental cages that keep Africa dependent today.

It’s time for us as Africans — in the motherland and across the diaspora — to wake up.
To believe in our own, to build our own media, justice, education, and economic systems. To stop looking to the West for validation and begin shaping our destiny with courage and conviction.

The freedom our ancestors died for will only make sense when we truly free our minds.
George’s story reminds us: the world may not always stand for Africa — so Africa must stand for itself.

🖤 Rest in power, George Stinney Jr.
May your story continue to awaken generations until Africa stands free, united, and self-sufficient.

I wonder how these men sleep with such nonsense they've done or still doing in Nigeria as politicians.

For eight solid years, Engineer David Nweze Umahi presided over the affairs of Ebonyi State — one of the poorest states in the South-East, and indeed in Nigeria. Yet, his biggest achievement was not the reduction of poverty, nor strategic investment in human capital development.

Instead, his legacy is marked by an obsession with capital-intensive infrastructure, particularly flyovers — 23 in total, many of which see little to no traffic. What should have been traffic-alleviation projects became symbols of excess, serving political ego more than public need.

For context, Anambra State, with over 6 million people, has fewer than 10 flyovers. Enugu (about 5 million) has roughly 4. Imo, with similar population, has between 2–3, while Abia has only 1. Yet Ebonyi, with just 3 million people and minimal congestion, boasts 23 flyovers — courtesy of Umahi.

His “Professor-of-Practice” in flyover construction extended even to his hometown of Uburu, where he built two flyovers, including one directly opposite the gate to his sprawling residence — reportedly home to dozens of houses, some with hanging swimming pools, while his children live abroad. He even built an airport now largely used for church services.

If many in the Igbo community would pause and reflect, we might realize that our biggest problem isn’t external — it’s internal. Our true challenge lies in the leadership mindset that prioritizes vanity projects over people-centered governance.

Until we begin to hold our leaders accountable for how they use public funds — not just what they build, but who it benefits — our progress will remain cosmetic.

AFRICA’S SHIFTING CONSTRUCT ON MARRIAGE

“Finding a husband is not easy — and some women are unknowingly playing with their own.”

Nollywood veteran Bimbo Akintola, now 52, speaks candidly about her life as a single, childless woman, expressing deep reflection and regret.

> “There are very few men around. You will only realize this when you start looking for a life partner. Women should begin to consider polygamy,” — Bimbo Akintola

Her statement has stirred new conversations around Africa’s evolving social and marital structures, where tradition, modernity, and individual freedom often collide.

Across the continent, the idea of polygamy—once seen purely as cultural or patriarchal—is being reinterpreted in the context of companionate scarcity, changing gender roles, and economic realities.

As Africa redefines family and legacy in the modern age, perhaps the question isn’t only about marriage, but about connection, purpose, and partnership beyond traditional boundaries.

What is your take on this?
