Dear Mr. Julius Sello Malema,

As you continue to pursue your revolutionary dream, I want you to know that, in my eyes, you have already won. The journey for the black child is fraught with challenges, particularly when personal interests threaten to overshadow our collective goals. Yet, you have remained steadfast, a beacon of loyalty and commitment to the unification of Africa.

Watching you, I felt a deep ache in my heart as I witnessed the struggles and setbacks you face. But your strength and determination have taught me an invaluable lesson: to be a revolutionary leader, to pioneer a new narrative, you must be prepared to stand alone and, if necessary, be willing to give everything for the cause.

I celebrate you, Mr. Malema, as an African visionary who has fought and continues to fight for what you believe in. I stand with you, unashamed and unwavering, because you dare to stand out, to push forward in the face of adversity.

My prayer, using you as a point of contact, is that every African child realizes their dreams. You have inspired others to express their gifts, skills, and talents. I choose not to focus on any faults or errors others might recount, for as it is said, "Let he or she who is without sin cast the first stone."

Leadership at this level is not for the faint-hearted, and few are born with the strength to lead as you have—with a vision of a united Africa, striving to bridge the divides and overcome the inequalities that still plague our continent. Thank you for embodying this spirit and for pushing us toward a brighter, more unified future.

Ethiopian Airlines has signed a deal for the design of a new $6 billion airport described as the biggest in Africa, state media reported.

The new hub will be able to handle 100 million passengers a year once completed in five years, Ethiopian Airlines chief executive Mesfin Tasew was quoted as saying at a press conference on Friday.

He said Ethiopian Airlines had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dubai-based consulting company Dar to develop the design for the airport, which will have four runways.

It will be built in Bishoftu, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southeast of the capital Addis Ababa, and stretch across 35 square kilometers (13.5 square miles), he said.

"The first phase includes the construction of the airport facility with a capacity of 60 million passengers per year and the completion of phase two of the airport project will grow to handle more than 100 million passengers per year," Mesfin said, according to state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate.

Dar director of operations Tariq Al-Qanni, who was at the press conference, said it would be the biggest airport in Africa once complete, Fana reported.

"The scope of the agreement is for Dar to develop the detailed design of the new airport and at the same time to assist Ethiopian Airlines in the selection of the contractors who will build the new airport facilities," Mesfin added.

Ethiopian Airlines is the largest in Africa, last month reporting revenue of $7 billion for its 2023/24 financial year, carrying 17.1 million passengers.

Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, currently the airline's hub, has a maximum capacity of 25 million passengers a year.

Where Has Nigeria as a Nation Missed It?

As we reflect on Nigeria's performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, it's clear that our nation's potential is immense, yet unrealized. Remarkably, several Nigerians won medals for other countries:

- Yemisi Ogunleye - Gold (Germany)
- Ebelechukwu Agbapuonwu - Silver (Bahrain)
- Nneka Echikunwoke - Silver (USA)
- Melvin Imoudu - Bronze (Germany)
- and many more in various fields.

While these athletes of Nigerian descent thrived on the international stage, Nigeria, as a nation, did not secure a single medal. This stark contrast raises a critical question: Where did we miss the mark as a nation?

The Divides Holding Us Back

The answer lies not just in the athletes but in the broader divides that have plagued our nation for decades:

1. Leadership Without Vision: Our leaders have often lacked a clear, cohesive vision for Nigeria’s place in the global arena. Instead of fostering talent and innovation, they have allowed divisions and short-sighted policies to weaken our national spirit.

2. Neglect of Human Capital: Despite our vast population, Nigeria has not invested adequately in nurturing talent across all sectors. From sports to education, our systems fail to provide the support and infrastructure needed to develop world-class professionals.

3. Brain Drain and Globalization: Many talented Nigerians seek opportunities abroad due to the lack of prospects at home. While these individuals find success elsewhere, their contributions could have strengthened Nigeria’s global standing if proper systems were in place.

4. National Disunity: Regional, ethnic, and religious divides have prevented us from coming together as a unified nation. These divisions weaken our collective strength and limit our ability to compete on the world stage.

Solutions to Redeem Nigeria as the Giant of Africa

To redeem our status as the Giant of Africa, we must address these divides and refocus our efforts on building a stronger, more united nation:

1. Visionary Leadership: We need leaders who understand the importance of globalization and are committed to positioning Nigeria as a global powerhouse. This involves strategic planning, investment in human capital, and policies that encourage innovation and inclusivity.

2. Invest in Human Capital: Nigeria must prioritize the development of its people by providing world-class education, training, and opportunities across all sectors. This includes creating robust support systems for athletes, professionals, and creatives to thrive within the country.

3. Tackle Brain Drain: To retain our best talents, we must create an environment that offers comparable or better opportunities than those found abroad. This includes improving infrastructure, governance, and economic stability to make Nigeria an attractive place to live and work.

4. Foster National Unity: We must bridge the divides that have fragmented our nation. This requires promoting inclusivity, celebrating our diversity, and fostering a sense of shared purpose. When we unite as Nigerians first, we can harness the collective strength needed to excel on the global stage.

5. Global Mindset: Nigeria needs to adopt a global mindset, recognizing that we are part of a larger world where collaboration, competition, and innovation drive progress. We must actively participate in global forums, sports, business, and cultural exchanges to raise our profile as a nation.

Conclusion: Reclaiming Our Place as the Giant of Africa

Nigeria has the talent, resources, and potential to lead Africa and make a significant impact on the global stage. However, to do so, we must address the divides that hold us back and embrace a vision of unity, growth, and global competitiveness.

AfriOne Network represents the kind of collaborative, innovative approach that can help us achieve this vision. By fostering Pan-African unity, investing in people, and bridging the divides that have hindered our progress, we can reclaim our place as the Giant of Africa and ensure that Nigeria, as a nation, thrives on the international stage.

Miss South Africa Mia Le Roux Congratulations

The 28-year-old marketing manager, model and part-time BCom marketing student hails from Rosebank in Cape Town, but was born in Sasolburg, Free State and raised in Oudtshoorn.

Le Roux was diagnosed with “profound hearing loss” when she was a year old and after her community rallied behind her for support, it inspired her to “make a positive impact and break barriers”.

Le Roux is no stranger to the world of beauty pageants. The Miss South Africa 2024 queen won titles such as Miss Struisie, Miss Garden Route, and Ultimate Wildcat. She also made it to the Top 5 in Miss Deaf South Africa. as per Smile FM

Mia Le Roux was joined by her contenders in the pageant’s Top 3 – runner-up to crown, Nompumelelo Maduna, and Onalenna Constantin claiming third place.

“I believe I deserve to win the title as I embody resilience, strength and the ubuntu spirit within South Africa. As a deaf woman with a cochlear implant, I represent a community that often goes unheard,” said Le Roux, in her application for the pageant.

“I am here to prove that, despite being differently-abled, it has not affected me. My journey is a testament to the power of dreams and determination we all possess,” she added.

10/08/2024

I keep saying it, the problem is not Chichi but because she is of Nigerian descent. Some Nigerians in South Africa, to be fair, have not contributed fairly to the narrative of proper positioning in the scheme of things, which has also contributed to this saga.

Nobody will question this lady Sherry because she is not Nigeria and many others in that competition, she is not black, does not represent South African culture of things and I also doubt if she speaks the language and engages in being married to a Chinese but Chichi gets the brunt because of firstly her name and her descents

This is a call from our government in South Africa to call its people and, this time, everyone to a 3-day national conference and institute system that seeks to give us a name worth emulating. As much as I understand that generalization is not good, to be honest, we self, as Nigerians in South Africa, do not try at all. I stop defending most of my people when I hear things that come to my office, i cry most time

Our divides in Nigeria we also brought to South Africa, you call for unity systems where you will find the elites of Nigerians in South Africa raising their shoulders because they feel it is not on their doorstep or they are exempted, we brought this upon ourselves and it is high time we sit back and reflect as Nigerians in South Africa, what measure are we going to take, steps to follow, systems to adhere to etc.

Side notes

To all Nigerians In South Africa, All our documents now, including those who think they are citizens, are under scrutiny; they are planning to recall all papers done to Nigerians in South Africa (Permits, Permanent Resident or Citizenship); if you know how to pray, start praying now as of the information reaching my office; and if you know you got your documents fraudulently, start carrying your back and be on your way to OR Tambo International Airport to any country of your choice including back home to Nigeria.

I will leave it here.

Gwo Gwo Gwon gwo:
A Dance Of Deception
Oseni Rufai

This dance has been trending for days. At every nook and crannies of the social media platforms, the dance steps are very prominent. Everyone wants to dance that dance of twisting of waist and raising of one leg. Turning thereafter to pursue themselves in a very comical manner.

I have sat down to look at the sense in the dance as popularised by Brain Jotter, all I could see was a gregarious instinct of the masses and the craves to join the bandwagon.

What is Gwo Gwo Ngwo? Gwo Gwo ngwo was just the last part of the lyrics that is filled with rich meaning and moral lessons.

Tired of the hullabaloo of the Gwo Gwo ngwo challenge, I took time to listen to the lyrics from the beginning to the end.

Gentleman Mike Ejeagha is indeed a maestro, who knows his onus with a dexterity and sagacity that are legendary.

I wouldn’t know what he had in mind telling such a story, as irredescent as that story is, it shone to my mind with a lesson that made me shed tears.

Listen to the story line. There was a bet from a King that anybody that brings an Elephant to Him would marry the King’ Daughter.

Bringing the Elephant was no mean feat. This made other animals shy away and saw the demand as a tall order. The Tortoise in its crafty and deceptive nature went and told Elephant lies. Lies were too pleasant, the Elephant could not but fall for it.

What was the lie? That King wants to make the Elephant the Chairman of its Ofala celebration. Ofala celebration is an elaborate celebration of festivity. It sounded too prestigious an offer to be the Chairman of such a festival.

On the appointed day, the Tortoise went to the Elephant. The Elephant got ready and they set out on the journey. At a point the Elephant got angry over the Tortoise snail paced movement and feared they would miss the festival. So when the Tortoise requested that it sat on the Elephant back to facilitate their movement, the Elephant didn’t hesitate.

While on the Elephant’ back it requested the Elephant to allow it tie rope around its neck for stability.

The Elephant allowed it, being too obsessed to be the Chairman of the Ofala, anything that would be an obstacle to it must be dealt with.

As they got close to the king’ Palace, the Tortoise raised his voice and sang

Nnam eze akpatam enyi, Nnam eze akpatam enyi.
( My King I have brought the Elephant)

Nwa mbe isi na ikpata onye, Nwa mbe isi na ikpata onye.
( Small Tortoise who do you said you have brought? The Elephant queried)

Asim ana ya chebe enyi dube enyi, odikam si na akpatam enyi.
( I said let the earth protect and guide the Elephant. Did I said I have brought Elephant?)

Asim ana ya chebe enyi dube enyi, odikam si na akpatam enyi.( I said let the earth protect and guide the Elephant. Did I said I have brought Elephant ?)

Okwa enyi ga abu isi oche, okwa enyi ga abu isi oche.
(It is not the Elephant that will be the chairman?)

Enyi na aga ayi so gi na azu
gwo gwo gwo ngwo ( Elephant continue to go we are behind you, gwo gwo gwo ngwo)

What do you make out of this story? So many? For mine it is a reflection of the deception the Nigeria poor masses experience in the hands of our tricky political class.

The Elephant represents the poor masses and the Tortoise the political class that comes with all manner of deception, tricks and manipulation. They come to us, the poor masses like the Tortoise came to the Elephant every election year with hopeless hope, fake promises, manipulative tendencies, while leading us to places of doom, destruction, hardship, shame and economic slavery as we dance gwo gwo gwo ngwo not knowing we are being led to our destruction pools and points.

By size just as the Elephant is 30 times bigger than the Tortoise so are the masses bigger than the political class. Same way Tortoise deceived the Elephant, the political class has been deceiving us. Shame!! Gwo Gwo ngwo as we sheepishly meet our Waterloo.

May God help us to realize our might and power over the minion political class of deceptive intents and use it to liberate ourselves from their claws of manipulations and slavery .

Until we rise above their lies and deception, the same way the Elephant was tied at the King’s Palace for shame and ridicule, same way we would continue under their suppression and subjugation.

The ball is on our court!!

Where Did We Miss It as a Nation, "Nigeria"?

Nigerians are strong-willed individuals who excel in various fields globally. Yet, systemic failures and leadership shortcomings have hindered national progress, leading to widespread frustration and the phenomenon of "JAPA" (seeking opportunities abroad). The recent case of Annette Echikunwoke, who had to switch allegiance to the U.S. to achieve her Olympic dreams, underscores these challenges.

Solutions for Fostering Unity, Partnership, and Collaboration in Africa:

1. Strengthening Governance and Accountability:

- Transparent Leadership: Implement transparent governance practices to restore trust in public institutions.

- Accountability Measures: Establish robust mechanisms for holding leaders accountable for their actions and decisions.

2. Investing in Youth and Talent Development:

- Support for Athletes: Create comprehensive support systems for athletes, including proper training facilities, healthcare, and financial support.

- Education and Skills Development: Invest in quality education and vocational training to equip the youth with skills for the global market.

3. Encouraging National and Regional Collaboration:

- Intra-African Partnerships: Foster partnerships between Nigerian institutions and their counterparts in other African countries to share resources and best practices.

- Pan-African Initiatives: Participate actively in Pan-African initiatives aimed at economic and social development.

4. Promoting Social and Economic Equity:

- Inclusive Policies: Develop policies that promote social and economic inclusion for all citizens, reducing disparities and fostering unity.

- Economic Empowerment: Support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through grants, loans, and mentorship programs.

5. Enhancing National Pride and Identity:

- Celebrating Success Stories: Highlight and celebrate the achievements of Nigerians at home and abroad to foster national pride.

- Civic Education: Promote civic education to instil a sense of national responsibility and collective identity.

6. Strengthening Diaspora Engagement:

- Diaspora Networks: Leverage the Nigerian diaspora by creating networks that facilitate knowledge and resource exchange.

- Incentives for Returnees: Provide incentives for skilled Nigerians abroad to return and contribute to national development.

7. Building Resilient Institutions:

- Capacity Building: Invest in building the capacity of public institutions to deliver quality services efficiently.

- Public-Private Partnerships: Encourage collaborations between the government and private sector to drive innovation and development.

8. Improving Infrastructure and Technology:

- Infrastructure Development: Invest in critical infrastructure such as roads, healthcare, and education facilities.

- Digital Transformation: Promote digital transformation initiatives to enhance service delivery and economic opportunities.

Encouraging National and Continental Unity

To truly foster unity, partnership, and collaboration, we must recognize our shared humanity beyond nationalities. Nigerians, like all Africans, have dreams and aspirations. Protecting and nurturing these dreams requires a collective effort, constitutional respect, and empathetic understanding.

Call to Action

Leaders and citizens alike must work together to address these systemic issues. By focusing on transparent governance, youth empowerment, regional collaboration, and national pride, Nigeria can reclaim its position as a leader in Africa. Let's be humans first, support each other, and celebrate every win as a victory for the African child.

A New Nigeria Is Possible.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria address regrettably appeared disconnected from the harsh realities faced by the people and failed to address critical issues that initially triggered the protest. It either reflects a lack of awareness among his advisers regarding the scale of anger, hunger, and hardship in the country or a deliberate choice to disregard it. At this point, I strongly advise the President to distance himself from sycophants and surround himself with individuals who will present the unvarnished truth.

While the President's speech focused on the past, the people are concerned with the present and the future. He should begin by addressing pressing issues such as the exorbitant cost of governance, measures to tackle corruption, the high cost of living, and directing resources effectively towards critical areas like health, education, and poverty alleviation. I respectfully reiterate that the President should declare a war on insecurity, the economy, poverty, unemployment, and the power sector.

Persistent issues of corruption and mismanagement of public funds must be addressed decisively. As is done in other nations during such times, regular briefings, whether quarterly or biannually, from the President, are essential to communicate the visible and verifiable measures being taken to revive the nation from its current state of hopelessness, restore hope, and rebuild trust in our country. I also humbly request that the President reduce the repetition of how dire the situation is; every Nigerian is already aware of the extent of the problems. Mr President, you and your team were elected not just to witness the protests but to alleviate the suffering of the people.

Nigerians do not expect the President to solve the nation’s problems overnight, but we do expect a concerted effort to address the mismanagement of public resources, reduce the high cost of governance, and tackle issues like insecurity, corruption, electricity, agriculture, and productivity to set the country on a path to recovery and growth. By doing so, the President can restore hope and rekindle the people’s faith in our dear country Nigeria.

Proposed Solutions to Transform Nigeria into a Producing State and Attract International Investment

1. Economic Diversification and Industrialization:

- Promotion of Local Industries: Encourage local production by providing incentives, tax breaks, and subsidies to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in manufacturing, agriculture, and technology sectors.

- Investment in Infrastructure: Develop robust infrastructure, including transportation networks, power supply, and internet connectivity, to support industrial growth and attract foreign direct investment.

- Skill Development: Implement vocational training and education programs to equip the workforce with the necessary skills for emerging industries.

- Reducing Import Dependence: Implement policies to reduce the importation of food and materials that can be produced locally, thus fostering self-sufficiency.

2. Agricultural Revolution:

- Modern Farming Techniques: Introduce modern farming methods, such as precision agriculture, to increase productivity and reduce post-harvest losses.

- Access to Finance: Provide affordable loans and grants to farmers to invest in advanced equipment and technology.

- Value Chain Development: Establish processing facilities to add value to raw agricultural products, thereby creating jobs and boosting exports.

3. Energy Sector Reform:

- Renewable Energy: Invest in renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydroelectric power to diversify the energy mix and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

- Privatization and Deregulation: Encourage private sector participation in the power sector to enhance efficiency and service delivery but also be monitored by the government.

- Grid Expansion: Expand and upgrade the national grid to ensure reliable electricity supply to industries and households.

4. Governance and Anti-Corruption Measures:

- Transparency and Accountability: Strengthen institutions like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to effectively combat corruption and ensure the transparent use of public funds.

- Cost of Governance: Reduce the cost of governance by cutting down on unnecessary government expenditures and adopting a lean government model.

- Public Participation: Foster a culture of public participation and accountability by regularly engaging with citizens through town hall meetings and public forums.

5. **Security and Stability:

- Community Policing: Implement community policing strategies to enhance security at the grassroots level.

- Military Reforms: Equip and train security forces to effectively tackle insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges.

- Economic Empowerment: Address the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty and unemployment, by creating economic opportunities for the youth.

6. Healthcare and Education:

- Universal Healthcare: Establish a universal healthcare system to provide affordable and accessible medical services to all citizens.

- Educational Reforms: Invest in the education sector to improve the quality of education and ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of the modern economy.

- Research and Innovation: Support research and innovation by funding research institutions and creating an environment conducive to innovation and creativity.

7. Poverty Alleviation and Social Welfare:

- Social Safety Nets: Implement social safety net programs to support the most vulnerable populations, including the elderly, disabled, and unemployed.

- Affordable Housing: Develop affordable housing projects to reduce homelessness and improve living conditions for low-income families.

- Job Creation: Create job opportunities through public works programs, entrepreneurship support, and incentives for private sector job creation.

8. Innovation and Creative Hubs:

- Development of Innovation Hubs: Establish innovation and creative hubs across the nation to foster entrepreneurship and technological advancements.

- Access to Funding: Provide access to funding for innovative projects that can set Nigeria apart on the global stage.

9. Rebranding Nigeria:

- International Marketing: Rebrand Nigeria to attract international investors and the diaspora community by highlighting investment opportunities and success stories.

- Diaspora Engagement: Create initiatives to engage the Nigerian diaspora, encouraging them to invest and contribute to national development.

10. Youth Empowerment and Inclusivity:

- Youth in Governance: Ensure youth representation in government and private sector decision-making processes.

- Entrepreneurship Programs: Develop programs that empower young entrepreneurs with skills, mentorship, and funding.

11. Business Environment Reforms:

- Tax Policy Review: Review tax policies to make them more favourable for startups and ease the process of doing business in Nigeria.

- Regulatory Reforms: Simplify regulatory frameworks to reduce bureaucratic hurdles for businesses.

A new Nigeria is possible by addressing the root causes of the nation's challenges and setting the country on a path to sustainable development and prosperity.
