Welcome to 2025! 🎊🌟 And Happy New Year from the ONEPASS team! We know we're in a new year, but we wanted to take a look back at one of our favorite stories from 2024.

This is David's Story, captured for Compassion International, and it's an absolutely incredible testament to the difference one person can make in someone else's life. The entire trajectory of David's life was changed through a Compassion donor and the invaluable work of Compassion Kenya, and we just cannot get over this beautiful story. 🥹

It's a story that almost wasn't captured – it wasn't even in the brief! – but when we found out about David, we knew we HAD to get this one. Thanks to some quick thinking from our team on the ground and the green light from our amazing Compassion client, we were able to bring David's Story to the world and hopefully change some lives in the process. “I know this sounds extreme, but if I did not join Compassion, I would have been dead. I would have just been a statistic in the environment. So generations and generation’s of my family just being stuck. And it just becomes a cycle of endless poverty.”

Meet David. His story is one that gives me hope when it feels like the world is so unendingly bleak. 💙

We met David on our shoot in Nairobi back in March. He actually works for Compassion International and as he led a team from the US, showing them the work that the org does, David just happened to mention that HE was a Compassion kid. “What?! No way!” We came to find out that he started in the program when he was just 5 years old. He was sponsored by a Canadian man, who then sponsored him for SEVENTEEN STRAIGHT YEARS. 17 years! We then found out that Mathare, the incredibly impoverished slum we were visiting, is exactly where David grew up. 🇰🇪

This was not in the shoot plan, but I said, “WE HAVE TO TELL THIS STORY.” Nathaniel Sigamoney agreed! Compassion agreed! And so, we captured David’s experience – his hunger, his suffering, his struggle, and his eventual growth and transformation. I’ve been editing this video and crying my way through it because it is so deeply moving. It shows the power of , the power of sponsorship, the power of changing one life. David’s whole family made it out of Mathare because of that sponsorship. He can now help change more lives because of that sponsorship. It is impact on a generational scale.

David said he started working for Compassion because of “a passion to do exactly what someone did for me.” YOH. We can change lives. It is possible

Yes, this is Amy, and no it won't always be me on the socials in the future. :) But I have to tell you that when I am in my darkest places, David’s story is the light. Fifteen years in, I am still so grateful for the good I get to see. Yes absolutely, there is deep suffering and struggle, and it is devastating and it still breaks me. And yes, there is light too.

Thank you, Compassion, for the privilege to witness and tell these stories. 🧡

BRAVE. That was the theme of this year's Starfish Greathearts Foundation gala, and that is exactly what so many orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa are. 🇿🇦💛 They are brave and strong through the most difficult circumstances, and we wanted to show them as the real-life superheros they are every day! 💥

Starfish is there to support, uplift, and provide healthcare, education, nutrition, and opportunity to thousands of these children across SA. We've been telling stories with Starfish since 2020, and we're always grateful to partner with them in their incredible work. We get to see the real impact it makes for these brave kiddos. ⭐️
