Our final launch of "Arena" was held in Capetown on Thursday evening. What an event !! We treated 30 of our top customers to some amazing Italian food, Vino and Procecco - whilst our M.D, Rob and our supplier - Melanie detailed the merits of this "game changing" new grade. The event was held at SOHO Print Cafe in Greenpoint - and our friends there really delivered in terms of the ambience they created and the excellent caterers they used.

We got the feeling that the Industry had really been longing for a festive product launch - and we think we hit the mark ! Been a long time since we have hosted so many "Industry Legends" in one place at the same time ;)

A touch of Verona in Sandton ! On Tuesday we held the Jozi launch of our incredible new paper "Arena". Our Managing Director, and the Italian supplier presented this versatile new grade to 30 of our top clients. The turnout was impressive - including several industry leaders and business owners. Lovely Italian food to compliment this Italian paper !

International Plastic Bag Free Day

We are all aware of Plastics and their immense negative effects on the environment. From effecting animals’ food sources, to the micro plastics released into the air and water systems. Single use plastic is an unsustainably sourced, non-recyclable material that has long lasting detrimental effects on our ecosystems.

Over the last few years there has been an intentional effort from big corporates to move away from plastic. Companies such as Woolworths has made the decision to make use of multi-use material bags. With paper being an obvious replacement for plastic, due to it being one of the most sustainable and recyclable materials available. There have been several big brands such as Superdry, Adidas, Louis Vuitton and fast-food chains that have made the move to paper.

With the South African government wanting to eliminate all plastic bags by 2027, it is essential that companies look to the future of paper and other sustainable materials.

This year ‘World Environment Day’ is focused on Solutions to plastic pollution. With paper being one of the most recyclable and sustainable resources, there is no doubt that this is a fantastic solution to the plastic pollution problems we are currently faced with. Not only is paper a more sustainable product than plastic, but has no harmful additives that are released into the environment causing a secondary pollution in our foods, waters, and air.

With a large percentage of our products being made from recycled and sustainably sourced materials Papersmith & Son are very happy to be playing our role in supporting the fight against Plastic Pollution.
