BRIEF: Create a promo highlighting SuperSport’s big events in February, the month of Love
SOLUTION: The client asked us for a concept with a Valentine’s Day theme. It’s always fun looking at the sport we know so well through a different lens. The creative process here started with the big-sounding lush music we sourced- a piece that harkens back to Hollywood’s golden era- a more innocent time when Love was Love and romance blossomed. The music allowed us a slower pace of edit, which in turn allowed us to craft an intimate script, that could’ve been ripped straight from arthouse cinema. Luckily, we managed to find a French-speaking voice artist to put ze cherrie on ze top🍒

JOB: Bet With the Best
CLIENT: World Sports Betting💸
BRIEF: This was a pro-active idea we brought to the client ✔️
SOLUTION: There are a ton of online betting commercials out there, and most of them are animated, busy and very loud- like a slot machine’s acid trip. We approached the client with an idea for a commercial that used different tools to do the job, namely, a strong concept that actually delves into the inner workings of online betting, and an intriguing comedic script that if properly-realised, would result in a unique, very entertaining commercial that cut through the clutter. We think we pulled it off, and now it remains to be seen if the commercial results in an uptick in business for the client, who really gave us a lot of space for us to show them what we can do.

The Brief: Create a promo that captures the high energy and competition of this epic event🏐
The Solution: The client already had a big-budget shot commercial for this event, but felt that they needed additional content on air and social platforms that perhaps aligned a little better with the SuperSport brand. Whilst the commercial was certainly well-produced and did a job, it didn’t quite capture the energy of the fierce competition at the heart of the event. This should always be something that a sports content brand like SuperSport shows its audience that it knows well. With the licence to create a more aggressive, tough promo we went searching for a piece of music to match, and found one with a Kanye West vibe. The title-design was already established through an existing print campaign, so all we had to do was make it come to life in motion. Client was very happy that we were able to deliver on their quite-particular brief and the promo provides a real burst of energy on air⚡️

Project: Energade - Step up your game👟
Client: Levergy/M&C Saatchi/ICC
Brief: Create a commercial to promote Energade’s new bottle label using Wayde Van Niekerk.
Solution: The idea of using Wayde Van Niekerk and his inspiring story of overcoming his early challenges in his career came from client, though they had imagined using old photos of Wayde in the execution. We suggested casting a child actor to play a young version of Wayde knowing that it would be far more dynamic as a moving piece. The original narrative featured only shots of Young Wayde preparing to sprint, and would then have revealed present-day real Wayde as he takes off, which we still believe would’ve made for a stronger commercial. But the Energade client wanted to see more of the big name they were paying for and so we ended up with the edit you see. We like to think of narrative as king, but it’s business, and you don’t always get your way. Still looks damn pretty👏🏽

Project: SuperSport's May Highlights
Client: SuperSport/DStv
Brief: Create a promo highlighting SuperSport’s tentpole events in May🗓
Solution: SuperSport does these highlights promos every month, so ours had a known context into which it would slot. The April Highlights was a dramatic, almost operatic affair, so we wanted to offset that with some punk energy that doesn’t take itself too seriously. This is reflected, of course, in the music track, but also in the kitsch neon sign title animation and breakneck-speed edit. Shot selection is a mixture of the usual high-octane energy and big sports names we’ve come to expect on SuperSport, as well as the fun, character-driven shots we’ve scattered here and there. The final image, that captures the excited kid in us all, is one of those shots you’re lucky to stumble upon twice in a promo-making year✨
