Is wildlife conservation purely working alongside animals?
Short answer is no, their are many aspects of conservation. One of the biggest contributors to wildlife conservation efforts is the surrounding communities.
Involving the community not only gets them intrigued in understanding animals on a deeper level but it also greatly reduces human-wildlife conflict. How so? One great example is getting the communities to name new animals that come into the area.

Members of the Botswana Carnivore Forum hold naming ceremonies with the local villages in the areas when a new lion enters their study area. This then fosters a bond between the farmers and the lions, meaning the farmers are less likely to kill the lions when they come within close proximity to their livestock. That face says it all... gratitude, love, happiness and peace.

Rescue dogs have the biggest hearts, no matter what they have been through they always find a way to love again. This beautiful lady is Hyena, she was found severely malnourished with her puppies on the side of the road, they were rescued, fed, given medical attention, loved and most importantly placed in the best furever home 💜🐾

This adorable soul is Sophia and what a gentle soul she is. She was skin, bone, malnourished, covered in open wounds, kept in a tiny cage by a man that had no interest in her except to breed her. This is why it is so important when you are considering buying a dog, that you do your homework thoroughly, make sure you know what the condition is of the pups parents and how they are treated.

Step in the heroes at the MAWS - they nursed her back to health, gave her all the love in the world and found her the perfect furever home. Sophia will always have a spot in my heart, I spent hours on end playing with her, photographing her and of course loving her.

The Maun Animal Welfare Society is one of my long standing clients and the work they do in Maun and Northern Botswana is absolutely incredible, run entirely by volunteers and volunteer vets. Their main focus is on sterilization but they run a small clinic in Maun for low income households as well as mobile outreaches to the nearby communities that do not have access to veterinary care for their animals.

One of my very first clients was and still is the Botswana Carnivore Forum. They are a group of dedicated researchers, conservationists, individuals, and government representatives who are involved with carnivore conservation and research in Botswana. The members of the BCF focus on carnivore conservation within Botswana and the surrounding areas in which their study animals disperse to.
With the help of these conservation companies all the animals in their research areas benefit from living within these protected areas by means of the conservation efforts by the BCF members.

My love for combining social media and pets/wildlife came when I started helping out at a local animal welfare in Botswana. It is amazing what one voice can do and how many animals that voice can help. Through social media that one voice can turn into 1000 voices, think how much of a difference that can make!
