"It's been 20 years since her passing and her music still resonates with millions around the world." ~ (Brenda Fassie's one and only son).

Bongani "Bongz" Fassie is gearing up to honour his mother, Brenda Fassie, one of South Africa's most celebrated musicians to date. The late singer lost her life on 9 May 2004 at just 39 years old. Tonight, on the 20th anniversary of her death, Bongani organised a show to celebrate her life and legacy - the Night of Stars 🌟 🤩 ✨️ ❤️ 🎤🎼🎸🥁

(1964-2004) 🕯️

Today marks 20 years since South African legendary African pop icon Brenda Fassie passed away. Affectionately known as ‘Ma Brrr’ her debut breakout hit with The Big Dudes, Weekend Special, became the fast-selling record in 1983.

Brenda was dubbed the Madonna of the Townships by the TIME Magazine in 2001, an honour that many wish for and might never get. When she visited Tanzania at the height of her career, Brenda needed a military es**rt in order to drive to her hotel in Dar es Salam. Brenda brought Tanzania to a halt when she landed, and this was in the absence of Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. I often wonder how her social media accounts would look like if she was alive.

Interviewer: So Brenda, I hear that you are the Madonna of the townships.
Brenda Fassie: No, no, no sweety, Madonna is the Brenda of America 😂😂😂😂

Long live the spirit of Brenda Fassie, long live!

Cosmopolitan Awesome Women of 2004 ❤️

There used to be an annual feature in Cosmopolitan magazine titled, "Awesome Women", in celebration of South Africa's outstanding women achievers from a wide range of disciplines.

The common denominator being that the women were all young (under 35 years), inspiring, hard working, determined and not afraid to make a statement.

Selected by Cosmo's team of highly skilled journalists who spent a considerable amount of time investigating the market place, seeking out exemplary women to profile. Lists of proposed candidates were then submitted to Cosmo's Editor, Vanessa Raphaely. Thereafter, Cosmo's editorial team would select the final list.

I feel I should add that I am one of the few to have been featured twice, both in 2004 and 2006 🙌 😍

Once upon a time in Rome with 🇮🇹

It was a huge privilege & honour for me and fellow artist, Senzeni Marasela to have been invited to represent a collective of South African artists handpicked by Kathy Grundlin, the chief curator at the South African National Gallery, at the time. The photography exhibition titled '10 Years/10 Voices,' was aimed to promote contemporary photography in a democratic South Africa. 🇿🇦 ✊🏾

Other featured artists included Abrie Fourie, Andrew Tshabangu, Zwelethu Mthethwa, Churchill Nadikida, Siphiwe Sibeko, Doris Bloom, Berni Searle and the late George Hallett.

What a momentous occasion it was!

So, What Kind Of Photographer Are You?

I always pause whenever I'm asked this question. My brain literally goes blank for a few minutes like how am I supposed to make that decision when it's obvious that I shoot pretty much everything... at least in my opinion.

The reality is, I am actually incapable of giving a direct answer whenever I’m asked this question and for one simple reason; I've always believed that the photographic journey is a mystery. It unfolds and develops in new and unexpected directions all the time and I am open to them all.

But again, I am a very adventurous person. I like an eclectic mix of things so limiting myself to a single genre kinda goes against my ambitious goals and could stifle my creativity.

I AM MY OWN EXPERIMENT

Not sure who wants to hear this but I had to share...
