Meet Dr. Angela Tabiri: Ghana’s Inspiring Maths Queen
From Ashaiman to global acclaim, Dr. Angela Tabiri is transforming how the world views mathematics, especially for African women. The first African to win The Big Internet Math Off in 2024, she’s rewriting the narrative for women in STEM, inspiring the next generation to embrace the magic of numbers.
As the Academic Manager for the Girls in Mathematical Sciences Programme (GMSP) at AIMS-Ghana, Dr. Tabiri nurtures young female talents, empowering them to lead in mathematical research and innovation. Her mission? To ensure that no girl is ever told that math isn’t for her.
With a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Glasgow, Angela is a celebrated researcher in quantum algebra and the founder of Femafricmaths, an NGO promoting female African mathematicians. From hosting Science Slam Ghana to mentoring junior high students in her community, she proves that math can change lives, starting with the youngest minds.
Angela’s joy in solving puzzles has driven her to create spaces where African girls can dream big, think critically, and see endless career possibilities in STEM.
Dr. Tabiri’s groundbreaking work highlights that Math isn’t just a subject, it’s a tool for empowerment and a bridge to a brighter future.
