A first year BTh student at Union Bible Institute. She joined the publishing team at the beginning of the 3rd term.

This is what she had to say: "The reason I joined UBI family was my desire to know more about God and study Scripture in depth. I also got to be part of the publishing team and it has been an amazing experience. Learning how to edit books, put them together and crafting pocket charts for children’s ministry has been my highlights. "

"I learned that I need to read if I want to write."

"I learned that I don't need to wait until I am an adult to write -- I can write now, what is going on in my life, a little bit every day."

"I learned how to start a writers' group, to encourage myself and others to write."

"I learned I need to keep believing I can, even when others don't."

These are some of the comments from the finalists in the Letters of Hope Mpumuza Writing Competition who attended the workshop hosted for them by UBI Publishing last Saturday at Union Bible Institute. Excitement was high as they arrived for a day of workshopping their entries and learning how to improve their writing. UBI Principal X Nkosi shared his testimony and encouraged the learners to find their sure and lasting hope in Christ. A Zoom panel of authors shared their own writing journeys and interacted with the participants. Facilitator and author Steph Ebert took them through the steps to take to write and re-write their work, and she gave them tips on how to give feedback to other writers. Then it was time to break into groups to share their letters and stories and give suggestions. They also learned how to form writing clubs in their schools to continue to grow in their skill and passion for writing. The day ended with a ceremony to recognise the top winners in the competition. Congratulations to Olwakhe Radebe and Nompumelelo Nene, first place winners in English and isiZulu respectively. Second place prizes went to Phiwokuhle Ndlovu, Alondwe Mchunu and Unathi Simelane. Many thanks to the staff of UBI and the mentors from iThemba projects, as well as our many generous donors who sponsored prizes. We thank God for his help to make this a day these learners will remember for a long time.

We are excited to partner with iThemba projects (https://ithembaprojects.com/) on a writing contest for Grade 7-12 learners from Mpumuza (Sweetwaters). They were tasked to write a letter imparting hope to the young people of their community, and we have been overwhelmed with the enthusiastic response. 🎉Pray for the panel of judges who will be reading every submission 🏆🏆🏆and for all of the entrants--that being a part of this project will help them grow as writers and give them hope for their future. ✝🙏🎉
