Although Sales in Ex*****on (SIEs) or foreclosures have receded recently, negative sales are fast increasing, suggesting ongoing distress in the property market. Properties are often selling for significantly less than anticipated, with lower-value Freehold properties and sectional titles being the hardest hit. This trend indicates a failure to realize the expected growth in property values, revealing a concerning picture of the current economic situation despite the decline in SIEs.

Fikile Mbalula, the ANC's secretary-general, and Helen Zille, the chairperson of the DA's federal executive, are poised to lead their parties in coalition negotiations as South Africa faces the reality of a coalition government. Despite historical enmity between the ANC and DA, prospects for constructive discussions appear positive. Mbalula issued a gracious statement, accepting the election results and respecting voters' will. President Cyril Ramaphosa echoed these sentiments, emphasising democratic values and urging elected representatives to prioritise the country's interests.

Shell, the top fuel and energy company in South Africa, with a 122-year history in the country, is close to exiting the nation due to a strained relationship with its BEE (Black Economic Empowerment) partner, Thebe Investment Corporation. Thebe's decision to sell its 28% stake in Shell Downstream South Africa (SDSA) has led to tensions, with accusations that Shell undervalued Thebe's stake. While Thebe values its portion at $200 million (R3.7 billion), Shell perceives it as worth less than the initial investment of $73 million (R1.3 billion). Reports indicate that Shell has informed Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe and Trade & Industry Minister Ebrahim Patel of its intention to exit the South African market - with thousands of jobs on the line.
