NO DEATHS REPORTED AT RAPHAHLELO INITIATION SCHOOL - COGHSTA

SEKGOSESE | The Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs strongly refutes the misinformation circulating regarding the alleged deaths of two individuals at an initiation school in Ga-Raphahlelo, Sekgosese.

The statement released by the department clearly state that there are no deaths reported.

"No deaths have been reported at this initiation school. We urge the public and media to refrain from spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary panic and distress", reads the statement.
The statement further reads: We are saddened by the death of a 35-year-old man who passed away following an assault during a clash between a group of initiation school supervisors and community members in Itieleng village, Sekgosese.

"The incident occurred yesterday at the village and is currently under investigation. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased.COGHSTA emphasizes the importance of harmonious working relations within initiation schools. We urge all stakeholders to work together peacefully and respectfully to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in initiation activities", reads the statement.

The Department remains committed to supporting the affected communities and ensuring that all initiation practices are conducted safely and respectfully.

SEVEN SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOLLOWING A MURDER OF A 35-YEAR-OLD MAN AT ITIELENG VILLAGE

SEKGOSESE | Police have confirmed that seven (7) suspects aged between 35 and 45 have been arrested for cases of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) and murder following a violent feud between initiation educators and community members on June 22, 2024 at Itieleng village.

It is alleged that on Saturday at about 20h00, a group of community members organized an event where they played loud music.

"The initiation educators reportedly arrived at the event and switched off the music. This resulted in a conflict that escalated tensions. The two groups attacked each other with stones where several people sustained injuries, and a 35-year-old man lost his life", said Colonel Malesela Ledwaba of Limpopo Police.

Subsequent to the violence, a team of investigators was assigned to hunt down the suspects and made a breakthrough yesterday( Sunday), when they arrested three suspects aged between 34 and 42 for cases of assault GBH. The other four suspects aged between 35 and 45 were charged with murder.

The three suspects arrested for assault GBH will appear before the Senwamokgope Periodical Court. The four suspects charged with murder will appear before Giyani Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 25 June 2024.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest and urged the police to track down the remaining suspects to face the full might of the law.

A MANHUNT IS UNDERWAY FOR SUSPECTS INVOLVED IN A MURDER OF A 35-YEAR -OLD MAN IN ITIELENG VILLAGE, SEKGOSESE

The police in Sekgosese have launched a manhunt for suspects following the death of a 35-year-old man at Itieleng village on Saturday, 22 June 2024 at about 20:20.

The victim was reportedly with the group of initiation school attendees who went to switch off the music being played within the vicinity.

"Later on , it appears that there was a confrontation between the two groups, and the victim was struck in the head by an unknown suspect using a blunt object. Emergency medical services personnel were summoned to the scene. The victim was certified dead on the scene", said Colonel Malesela Ledwaba of Limpopo Police.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has expressed shock over the horrific attack that took someone 's life. She instructed Police to launch a search for the suspect to be apprehended and face the full might of the law.
