Another victory, another clean sheet! Johan Kristoffersson completely dominated the third round of the World Rallycross Championship in Nyirád, Hungary.

"We have worked efficiently with the car, taken smart steps and found good speed" says Kristoffersson.

Ole Christian Veiby made sure it was a double victory and a total triumph for Kristoffersson Motorsport.

Johan Kristoffersson was completely superior in the rain-soaked race in Höljes a couple of weeks ago. On dry ground in the blazing sun, he was just as dominating in his electric Volkswagen RX1e: fastest in all qualifying rounds, victory in the semi-final and a convincing triumph in the final. It was the 47th World RX victory for the seven-time world champion.

"We had a few problems in training at the beginning, but we improved constantly during the weekend" says Kristoffersson.
The only one who came close to beating the most victorious of all time in rallycross was his teammate Veiby, who made a fantastic start in Q2 and was ahead of Kristoffersson down to the first corner. However, Johan responded with an early joker and a lap that only he can set.

- What a start he got there! I had to push in the joker to catch up, says Kristoffersson.

Ole Christian, who had some technical problems in Höljes, now showed that he wants to be in the fight for the podium places, as he even matched Johan's lap times at times. In both the semi-final and the final, he followed unchallenged to the finish line as second and secured good points for himself in the drivers' championship and for KMS in the teams' championship.

"The starts have worked well all weekend. There are a couple of sections on this track that don't come naturally to me. I probably have some rally in my spine, but I still had good speed overall."
In summary, Veiby is now fourth with 50 points, five ahead of Timmy Hansen in third place.

"This was as good as it could be. Everything worked out. Great to be able to fight back after what happened in Höljes" says Ole Christian.

At the top, Kristoffersson took over the lead with a total of 72 points, seven more than second-place Niclas Grönholm, after another very convincing performance on the demanding track in Nyirád.

"I think this track suits me very well. It is incredibly challenging in terms of driving technique" says Johan.

The team CEO for KMS was of course extremely pleased with the results in the third round, the second after the switch to electric cars.

"An extremely good feeling! It is not often that you manage to score a 1-2, but now we can enjoy it and it is extra nice to have this with us before the break" says Tommy Kristoffersson and continues:
"Such success does not come for free. We are the first in the paddock in the mornings and the last home in the evenings and we have staff who have given up their vacation to make sure that we are in the absolute best condition. This is a group of people that live their lives to perform and I can say that we have done our homework on all levels."

Timmy Hansen extended his podium streak with third place in Nyirád, Hungary, as the FIA World Rallycross Championship completed Round 3 of the 2025 season (19-20 July).

A difficult week for the Hansen World RX Team ended with a third piece of silverware this year, as Timmy battled from the back row of the Final to take another podium - alongside third and second in Sweden and Portugal, respectively.

Timmy entered Round 3 third in the championship standings, ahead of team-mate Kevin Hansen in fifth, after a dramatic weekend in Höljes full of rain and technical issues for the Hansen outfit.

Starting on the outside of their Q1 Heats following the Round 3 Qualifying draw, the Hansen brothers struggled to climb the standings on the unforgiving 'Red Cauldron' circuit.

Contact from CE Dealer Team's Klara Andersson in Q2 sent Kevin into a spin as he exited the joker, dropping him from second to last in the Heat, and after Saturday's two qualifying sessions, Timmy was fifth and Kevin eighth overall.

An already difficult day for the Swedish squad grew worse when gearbox oil was discovered in the electric motor of Timmy's car. Working through the night to resolve the problem, the team headed into Sunday on the back foot.

A dramatic opening corner in Q3 hindered Kevin's run, as the #71 driver recovered from contact in Turn 1, and it was another difficult start in Q4. Patrick O'Donovan made contact with pole sitter Timmy through the second corner, pushing him into the side of Kevin and passing through on the inside to eventually take the Heat win.

The struggles of Qualifying meant that Timmy and Kevin lined up alongside each other on the second row of Semi-Final 1. Up against Johan Kristoffersson and OC Veiby in the KMS EV cars, getting both Hansen drivers through to the Final was going to be a challenge.

Contact between Timmy and OC Veiby opened the door for Kevin to joker on the first lap and push hard to close the gap to the pair battling ahead. The KMS team's dominant form continued, however, holding onto first and second ahead of Timmy in third.

Drawing on his rallycross experience for the Final, Timmy managed to slip through on the inside of Turns 1 and 2 unharmed, slotting into third place from the back row. The 2019 World RX Champion kept OC Veiby and the podium in his sights for the remainder of the race, crossing the line for his third piece of silverware this season.

Kenneth Hansen, Team Principal at Hansen World RX Team, said: "It has been a very difficult weekend for the team here in Hungary. The mechanics and engineers worked very hard, especially on the Saturday to repair Timmy's car. Just as we were starting to feel happier with the set-ups for Timmy and Kevin, we ended up with both of our cars in the same Semi-Final, and up against the KMS drivers who were very dominant this round.

"Timmy managed to get third place in the Final even though we have been struggling for pace. He has a lot of rallycross races under his belt and he knows how to play the game. Coming away with third after so many problems feels like a win for the team, and we will take that positive attitude with us to Finland."

Timmy Hansen, Hansen World RX Team driver, said: "P3 is more than we deserved this weekend, but we played the game right. We fought gloves off, and we were in the right place at the right time. It's honestly scary out there sometimes. To pitch the car in knowing that if it doesn't stick then it's a heavy crash here at Nyirád - but it stuck and I'm just glad to be at the finish line. We didn't have the pace this weekend so there is a lot to work on if we're going to be competitive at the next round in Finland. For now though I'm going to enjoy my third podium of the season."

Kevin Hansen, Hansen World RX Team driver, said: "This was probably the worst rallycross weekend that I've had in many years, so I'm feeling grateful that it's over. We tried so many things but we just couldn't find the pace. Add on to that getting pushed off yesterday and not pulling off our strategy in the Semi-Final. A lot of work to do ahead of Finland if we want to compete with the other electric cars, but I'll keep giving it everything I've got."

After an impressive outing earlier this month at Höljes in Sweden, Juha Rytkönen encountered a tougher challenge in Hungary, hindered by technical issues that disrupted his progress in the Hyundai i20.

On a track he had never raced before, a lack of running—especially from the second free practice session onward—prevented the Finnish driver from fully showcasing his speed.

Still, the Istanbul Park winner never gave up. Facing off against clearly superior electric Supercars, the current Balance of Performance regulations between RX1e and RX1 did him no favors.

Only eighth in the intermediate classification after the heats, Rytkönen nevertheless pulled off a strong semi-final drive to grab the final spot in the last race of the weekend.

Finishing fifth, the PGRX driver managed to keep FIA World Championship leader Niclas Grönholm behind him for all six laps—a display of calm and control under pressure.

Even on a difficult day, Rytkönen banked valuable points toward the championship, with encouraging signs ahead of the next World RX stop in Finland.

“Up until the semi-final, this weekend was a real uphill battle. We had one technical issue after another—nothing came easy at Nyirád. I didn’t know the track, and losing time in free practice didn’t help in terms of finding the limit. Even though the car wasn’t easy to handle, I still finished fifth in the final ahead of the World RX leader, Niclas Grönholm. Now it’s all eyes on Finland, where we’ll aim to get our performance back and hopefully schedule a test day to fine-tune our approach,” Juha Rytkönen said.

“As things stand, the performance balance between combustion and electric cars really isn’t working in our favor, and the long start straight at the KymiRing likely won’t help. Still, I’m hopeful that the balance between RX1 and RX1e can be re-evaluated. We had 15 kilos of ballast removed this weekend, which is a step in the right direction, but the effect remains too limited to really change the game.”
