Moving from Jhb to Emalahleni was a challenge for me. When one comes from a small town (city), and finally moves to the City of Gold, which had always been my dream. Moving back to the City of Coal, from the City of Gold was a challenge. Not just the physical part of things, but mentally and spiritually too. Even the acceptance took time. It took me about two years to come to terms with it and be at peace about it.
Fast forward to now, 2024, I now know that for me, this is where I'm supposed to be, especially in this season. I don't know if it will change, because my heart will always be in Jhb, but I know that in this very season, Emalahleni is where I'm meant to be, and God doesn't make mistakes. Also, I have come to love and appreciate what Emalahleni has to offer, not just Emalahleni, but Nkangala District as a whole. Its wholesome opportunities and the creativity is consuming.
I'm learning about the Ndebele culture, which is not my culture, but is the dominant culture in Nkangala District. We have other cultures, but Ndebele is pretty much dominant. Most of the traditions here are derived from this culture and people get to monetize it through different forms of art, and it's recognised worldwide.
