The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola assures the nation that the SAPS will ensure a thorough investigation into allegations that 95 Libyan nationals arrested at a farm in White River, Mpumalanga were allegedly receiving military training.

General Masemola welcomes the intelligence driven operation that led to the takedown operation this morning by a multidisciplinary team including detectives and specialised units within the SAPS.

A team of detectives is investigating alleged suspicious activities that are taking place at the farm.

When a team led by SAPS detectives arrived at the farm this morning they found the Libyans housed in military tents. Military training equipment was also found including licensed fi****ms.

SAPS detectives cannot rule out the possibility that the farm that is accredited as a security training site is allegedly being utilised as an illegal military training camp.

The SAPS is working closely with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) on this case to determine the circumstances surrounding how these nationals obtained their visas.

General Masemola has called for calm and says he has full confidence in the team that is working on this cases. He added that police will leave no stone unturned in getting to the bottom of what kind of activities have been taking place on the farm.

“During the takedown operation, police also found dagga and co***ne. Some of the other drugs found in their possession are being sent to the SAPS Forensic Science Laboratory in Pretoria to identify them as illegal substances. The safety and security of our citizens is of paramount importance and the SAPS remains committed to dealing decisively with transnational organised crime.” said Gen Masemola.

Dagga worth 4.7 million rand was confiscated near the Oshoek Border Post, which is between Eswatini and South Africa.

The dagga, which was wrapped in packages, was being transported in a Toyota bakkie, which was branded with a courier company logo.

Suspects aged 33 and 34 were arrested, and they've already appeared in court.

In a tragic accident early this morning, a car flew from M1 south over M1 North, crashing into a Toyota dealership on Empire Road in Johannesburg.

The vehicle was left into pieces, with the front side lodged in the offices upstairs.

Unfortunately, all four occupants of the car lost their lives in the crash.

The victims, three from Polokwane and one from Mokopane in Limpopo were reportedly young men. Among them three were studying in Johannesburg.

The accident is suspected to be a result of drag racing.

A 67-year-old man is set to appear in court after being arrested for possessing unlicensed fi****ms and violating South Africa's Firearm Control Act. Law enforcement received information about a fi****ms cache stored in his house.

The man, affiliated with a security company, was suspected of non-compliance. A search revealed 106 fi****ms, including rifles, shotguns, and pistols, along with 1704 live rounds, stored haphazardly in the house, leading to his arrest.

He lost his life in a car accident in KwaZulu Natal a few hours ago.

His brother Ayanda Ngema has confirmed his passing.

Ngema was coming from a funeral of one of his colleagues when the accident occurred.
