DURBAN TRANSPORT COMMUTERS' VOICES COMPLAINS ON UNSERVICEABLE BUS SHELTERS
By Mcebo Makhaye
While political organizations are gearing for the upcoming local government elections (LGE), commuters of the Durban Transport have voiced their annoyance about numerous unattended and unserviceable bus shelters in Sydenham, West central of Durban.
The issue of unserviceable bus shelters in Sydenham particularly in Overport drive and Dr Naidu drive was caused by the heavy rain and wind that destroyed the roof tops of many bus shelters that have happened in the past months, one commuter said.
"Ever since the roof tops got destroyed due to the heavy wind early this year, we have suffered when we are waiting for the bus especially in rainy days," health worker, Belinda Jele who works at King George hospital said.
Another commuter and matriculant, Zolanda Chioma Morah said she is unhappy about open top on the bus shelter, saying she might get into trouble because her final examination had been wetted.
"My friend cannot even seat down on the bench because it is a mess. We would like the councillor to fix our problems and issues," Morah stressed.
The ward councillor has not responded to the questions at the time of publishing this article, hence, it will be added once received.
On the other hand, the eThekwini Municipality's spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela said they have sent the query to the relevant department, and it will be attended soon.
