Unpopular opinion: as a social media manager followers are never what I am looking for when doing strategies for clients, theyāre just the cherry on top as the results of the reach.
Second slide is a fairly new account, small following with great organic reach that results in good queries that the client is obviously happy about š¤©
The key is in the content you are sharing, a good mixture of all media (reels, graphics and images) that contains some sort of value for your ideal audience š

I am excited because Iāve had an eye on these trends all 2023 (to see them take off feels like vindication š)
1. Last year I finally signed up on Reddit and itās lit! It gives so much of the original Facebook vibes and we all know how unhinged that was! Still looking for a social media platform that feels social? Join Reddit before it moves to the nowaday social filled with Ads and all. Itās a great place for a social media manager to zone off social media š if that makes sense
2. No need to say much on this, AI still has its cons but thereās no denying thatās itās making a lot of our lives easier in social media marketing
3. Influencers are still a big thing okay but the smaller influencers? An even bigger thing! Donāt sleep on your small following, build a community and make money for yourself
4. Also, nothing much to say here except social media is enjoying high quality content once again, crispy edited phone videos or videos shot using a camera are gaining more traction again which hasnāt been the case for a while since the laugh of short form videos. Yeah, more work for social media managers but better work I guess š„°
5. Have you still not awakened your LinkedIn profile? Youāre losing! Especially us social media managers and all service based businesses. LinkedIn is the new fun social media platform.

This also bring to mind the whole streaming factories thing, hehehe wonder how this will affect Instagram for business
Do you think this will influence the rise of streaming factories? I mean Instagram is huge and everyone wants views here!
The more followers the bigger the reach but itās nice not having to worry about gaining tens of followers everyday because none of my clients are necessarily looking for followers
But return on their investmentā¦
Which for me and them is bookings for service based companies and sales for products based companies
Achieved by showing up on social media correctly for that particular business to reach the correct audienceā¦š
Social media managers are not your sales people but with with the right work put it by all parties involved, sales do happen, who doesnāt want sales? š
This applies to my personal platforms as well, I donāt get tens of followers daily but Iām normally fully booked for social media management because my content is reaching the correct audience š

Itās unfortunately just not one of the things anyone can promise. Do not be afraid of losing clients and end up over promising, it is also not one of the things a client should be asking forš
You can however promise to deliver certain metrics based on the specified amount of work you will be putting in/discussed. Thatās just the basics of social media management š©š½āš»āļø

š„³ Facebook announced that you will now be able to create multiple personal profiles. Now i know this is great news for everyone one but especially as a social media manager, you can now create a profile for your high school mates, one for your clients and one for your business etc.
š©YouTube launches itās own editing app that promises to make you work faster and more accurately when editing your videos outside of YouTube š
šOkay this one caused quite a frenzy because imagine the kind of reactions we will be receiving from our emails?!!!
šøSeems like Iām only sharing great news because Tiktok launching Shops inside their app for business in the US means great news for businesses worldwide when it launches; Being able to sell your products on TikTok.
Twitter/ X announced that they will remove circles which was a Twitter feature that allowed you to create different groups to post to privately, sad news for old Twitter fans āā¹ļø
š¤©Finally, instagram announced that you will now be able to create different groups to share to privately other than just your āclose friendsā š¤

Hereās what I would do if I wanted to be a content creator in 2024ā¦
Being a social media manager naturally means having to create content (fortunately š) because even with a team of perhaps content creators you still need to be able to communicate it, engage and show up on stories etc.
Hereās what I would do to equip myself with content creation skills if I were to be starting todayā¦š¤
1. Firstly, set aside time, content creation needs time and it takes time. If you have other commitments then ensure you set aside a time to create your content otherwise it is a full time job.
2. Stick to a niche that you produce the content for. DO NOT MAKE CONTENT FOR EVERYONE. It just doesnāt work anymore unfortunately inorder for your efforts to bring results you have to focus them on one specific audience.
3. Be unique
4. Learn, stay updated with the industry, familiarise yourself with copywriting laws and other legal consideration of the content creation industry
5. Be patient
6. Invest in good equipment even if itās just a high quality camera phone.
7. Produce content non stop or during your set aside time and never look backā¦
Honestly if Iād never stopped creation content from 2016 to today I canāt even image where my brand would be.
So all it takes is creating the actual content until youāre tired but you donāt stop š

All you need is social proof, but what is social proof?
Social proof is a psychological phenomenon that refers to the tendency of people to look to the behaviors and actions of others to guide their own behavior and decisions, especially in uncertain or unfamiliar situations.
In simpler terms, it's the idea that people often assume that if many others are doing something or endorsing a particular idea, product, or behavior, it must be the right thing to do or believe.
In even SIMPLER terms?
- Create content that showcases your work, post your businessās products or services and brag about what you do
- Get customer reviews and testimonials: When people see positive reviews or testimonials from others who have had a good experience with a product or service, they are more likely to trust and choose that product or service.
Thatās honestly all Iām doing and I know it can work for any business š this is what Social Media for business is for, the followers can be a bonus
Well incase you havenāt heard, Instagram has come right out and told us that they are prioritising DMsā¦š
Only because we (the people using Instagram) seem to do a lot of private messaging (Iām gon come out and ask if yāall possibly gossiping a lot in the DMs hence this increase of interest in private messaging?š)
What does this mean for you and your business? š§
I would suggest that you
- Show up more on your stories because what encourages DMs more than stories right? Use interactive stickers, thereās so much option for you there to get engagement in your DMs
- Create shareable content. thereās a rumour that Instagram will be adding a new metric which shows how many shares a post has and if this is true then itās definitely to contribute to their private messaging prioritisation. People normally share content from their feed to their friends via DM or to their stories which again, encourages private messaging š
Lastly, I think the best way to make sales and gain clients is through direct messaging anyway so ensuring that youāre using more of this feature will not only show you growth here on the platform but you should definitely see an increase in those sales too š¤©

This is the most asked question in dms, āhow do I get my first client?ā and I apologise because Iām not about to bring you some overnight magic, it takes nothing but workš
Depending on how far you are on your social media management journey but if youāre at the step of asking yourself this question then one would assume youāve collected extensive knowledge for yourself and your business in this skill. You have a beautiful portfolio of case studies and are ready to present yourself to a potential client.
Approach small businesses near you and tell them how you can help THEM solve their digital marketing problems, find out what their pain points are and fill in with how youāll be able to bring ease into their businesses, possible growth and potential clients.
Make promises you can keep, promises you have some proof of (in your portfolio) and then offer them either a discount in the first month or the first month free. Provided that they take your package (with whatever minimum amount of time that your packages entail, maybe you offer 3 monthās contracts or 6 months).
Doesnāt that sound like something even you would be interested in if someone offered it to you if you were already in need of it and can see how itāll work for your business? š
The keys are a business in need of your services and what you can do for it š”
Hereās what I would do:
1. NICHE DOWN. No really theyāre not lying (I used to think they areš)
Youād think the algorithm hates you meanwhile it just doesnāt understand you. I had a problem because Iāve so much to offer in my business but it was important to find a community first and you can always expand and introduce more topics to your audience at a later stage (I wouldnāt recommend switching up on your people though š). Remember not everyone is your target market, so niche down and be for your targeted audience.
2. Optimise your account, make sure your name is clear and relevant to your niche if possible. Your bio should communicate what you are about. A clear profile photo and your content should be of quality, let it speak for itself so when a person visits your profile, they stay even if itās still just few pieces of content, make them memorable. Have keywords all over your profile, a great way to be discoverable.
3. Share your opinions and be vulnerable from the start, people wonāt relate to your product or service but they will relate to the human behind the product or service. My recent āviralā moment is from a candid reel of me sharing a tiny bit about my background and how I got to be doing this business, it was relatable and evoked emotion which is exactly what we all want. To feel seen.

All the budding entrepreneurs who need a sign. About a year ago I took a chance in myself and left corporate, quit my job with no salary plan just my new qualification and years of experience.
