A sincere thank you to everyone who has been on the thrilling, nerve-wrecking, exciting, heart-breaking, PHENOMENAL, creative beyond words, Rambo-solutions Katanimate animation journey here in Durban with us so far. It started as an idea in my garage at home, then grew to the Sydenham Community Centre until our studio home now at the KZN Film Commission offices. Gratitude, Light and Love to the people who walked through our doors and those who are still to come.

...and they're off! 10 excited interns from Katanimate Animation Studio flew to Johannesburg yesterday for AVI Jozi 2023 -the animation, visual effects and interactive festival happening this week at UJ. Thank you KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission. Today they will be visiting VFX power studio, Chocolate Tribe.

📸 to the day we first crossed paths!
In 2017, the year Katanimate Animation Studio took flight, we gathered as a team for the very first time. These images capture the essence of that monumental day.

Meet Rory Booth and Hamish Kyd, hard at work on a concept that would shape the future. Fast forward to today, and Rory is now one of the talented writers behind our beloved pre-school animated show, Knittyville. 🧶🏡

We were also joined by Denise Maher, our first Storyboard Artist. Her creativity and attention to detail brought our stories to life from the very beginning. 🎨📝

Let's not forget Pearl Mthembu, our brilliant Pipeline Developer, who ensured that our animation processes flowed seamlessly. Working alongside her was Faiza Galdhari, the skilled Fine Artist who played a pivotal role in developing the look of the WISE Institute. 👩‍💻🎭

Finally, we had Riaz K Eusouff, our current Visual Development Artist, who added depth and beauty to our imaginative worlds. 🎨✨

Looking back, we cherish the memories we made as a team. Join us in celebrating the spirit of collaboration and the bonds that have grown stronger since our humble beginnings. Here's to the magic that started it all!

Congratulations to Noble Pictures on their outstanding work in the much-anticipated and multi-award-winning Nelson Mandela African Folktales mini-series!

We were thrilled to be a part of the launch event at the Suncoast Cine Centre in Durban on Monday, where Noble Pictures showcased their unwavering dedication, expertise, and support. Their commitment to bringing these captivating stories to life has been truly exceptional.

Well done to Dr. Nanda Soobben and his team, who completed most of the projects in Durban, as well as Mind's Eye Creative, who completed one of the short films in Johannesburg.

Amidst this celebration, we would also like to acknowledge the achievements of our talented animators at Katanimate Animation Studios who worked on the productions. Waylon Hicken earned the prestigious Best International Animator Award and Andile Hlubi was recognized as the Most Dedicated Animator. Congratulations team!

Congratulations to Claudia Noble and Dr Nanda Soobben on the Durban premiere of Nelson Mandela's Folktales. Three Katanimate animators were part of the team that brought these 6 animated stories of Nelson Mandela's Favourite African Folktales to the screen.

It's an exciting time for South African animation! At The Stuttgart Trickfilm Animated Film Festival (ITFS),South Africa was the country of focus this year. Disney+ unveiled their latest project, the Sci-Fi anthology series, Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire, an anthology of 10 short animation films curated by Triggerfish Animation Studio. Our country's creative talent is making a big impact on the global animation industry.

From South Africa 🇿🇦 to Germany 🇩🇪! This Freedom Day, we're proud to celebrate the creative talent that our country has to offer. The Hidden Hand Studios, Cabblow Studios, and Pixcomm are just a few examples of the amazing animation work that's coming out of South Africa. We're excited to have the opportunity to network with both national and international players in the animation industry at the Film & Media Exchange and The Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) .
