DRIVER LOSES CONTROL, VEHICLE LEAVES ROAD ON N6

SMITHFIELD & REDDERSBURG: Arrive Alive reported that a driver lost control of their vehicle, causing it to drive off the tar road on the N6 highway from Smithfield towards Reddersburg on January 9, 2025, at approximately 10:20. The driver, who was reportedly traveling from Butterworth in the Eastern Cape to Carltonville in Johannesburg, and four passengers, including two adults, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by EMS personnel. Provincial traffic, SAPS from Reddersburg and Smithfield, and EMS ambulances responded to the scene. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any obstruction to traffic, and both lanes of the highway remained open. (Photo: Arrive Alive)

THREE INJURED IN N6 ACCIDENT NEAR SMITHFIELD

SMITHFIELD: A single-vehicle accident on the N6-7 near Smithfield in the Free State has left three people injured. The incident occurred on January 2, 2025, at approximately 13:30, when a white Hyundai Tucson lost control and crashed into a stone wall steel mesh barrier. The vehicle, which was traveling from the Eastern Cape to Carltonville in Gauteng, sustained frontal impact damage. Two males and one female were injured in the accident and were transported to Stoffel Coetzee Hospital by EMS for treatment. Emergency services, including SAPS and EMS, responded to the scene. BOYFRIEND ARRESTED FOR MURDER IN SMITHFIELD

SMITHFIELD: The Smithfield police have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 36-year-old woman. According to the spokesperson of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli, the body of a 36-year-old woman was discovered at her home lying on a bed covered in blood by her friend. Kareli said the deceased sustained multiple injuries on the head and body, adding that she was declared dead at the scene by the Emergency Medical Services personnel. “Smithfield police were summoned to the scene and preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the 37-year-old boyfriend, who was allegedly found with some of the deceased's items in his shack. He will appear in the Smithfield magistrate court soon for murder,” said Kareli.

ROUXVILLE: ’n Verdagte is doodgeskiet en sy makkers in hegtenis geneem in verband met ’n plaasaanval in die Vrystaat waar tydens ’n man vermoor en sy vrou ontvoer is.
Die polisie is Sondag omstreeks 07:00 deurdie Rouxville-boerderygemeenskap oor ’n moontlike moord op ’n boer van die Goedemoed-omgewing ingelig.
“Met beamptes se aankoms op die toneel isdie 52-jarige boer se liggaam met ’nskietwond aan sy kop aangetref. Daar is later vasgestel dat sy vrou tydens die aanval ontvoer is,” het kapt. Loraine Earle, polisiewoordvoerder, gesê. ’n Voertuig is tydens die aanval gesteel en die polisie het dit tot ’n plaas in die Tierpoort-omgewing nagespoor. Die Bloemfontein-blitspatrollie het die voertuig opgespoor en die vrou van die aanvallers gered. Sy ontvang mediese behandeling.
’n Verdagte is deur die polisie geskiet en gewond. Hy is na ’n hospitaal geneem waar hy later dood is. Twee vroue en ’n man is ook in die voertuig gevind en vir ondervraging ingeneem. Die polisie het op vuurwapens beslag gelê.
“Ek wil alle rolspelers en die boerderygemeenskap bedank vir hul vinnige en doeltreffende bystand om die verdagtes aan te keer,” het lt.genl. Baile Motswenyane, provinsiale polisiekommissaris, gesê. “Ek wil my innige meegevoel aan die familie met hul verlies betuig.” Volgens Motswenyane sal ’n span ervare speurders en kenners verseker dat die skuldiges aan die pen ry.
