The Agricultural Research Council's (ARC) National Beef Performers Awards has been presented for 45 years. The National Special Performance Test Class Award category, proudly sponsored by Plaas Media, has been presented for over 40 years with the purpose of showcasing the exceptional performance traits of bulls in various beef cattle breeds.
Bulls which were awarded gold or silver merit certificates when they completed a standardised growth test (Phase C) of the National Beef Recording and Improvement Scheme during the year that precedes the awards event are eligible to compete in this award category.

The National Mentor of the Year award category, sponsored by Molatek, was introduced to the ARC National Awards only a few years back and has become very popular ever since. The category acknowledges producers who lead by example. These producers mentor fellow producers and share their knowledge and experience to help others enhance their productivity and sustainability.

The National Beef Cattle Improvement Herd of the Year award category of the Agricultural Research Council's (ARC) National Beef Performers Awards is proudly sponsored by Plaas Media. The category considers overall herd management, community and industry involvement, as well as advocacy for the beef production industry.
Producers who enter this category must subscribe to a certain set of criteria such as herd performance and reproduction, participation and implementation of performance testing, cow efficiency and completeness of performance records.

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) National Beef Performers Best Elite Cow Awards category has been in existence for more than four decades and has become synonymous with the awards event. It is also one of the most prestigious in the country when it comes to acknowledging beef cows with truly exceptional performance traits.
Farmer's Weekly SA is the sponsor of this category of the annual ARC Beef Performers Awards. Both registered and commercial cows are eligible to participate and specific qualification criteria include age at first calving, the average intercalving period (ICP), days since the last calving and performance records.
