If you are a student or have a student in your life, please consider the mental health aspects. I have had the absolute worst experience studying online at Unisa and the lack of support online. Personally, I would not recommend Unisa because of their admin issues, lecturers being not involved and the awful experience.

However, I wanted to share how you can create spaces for student as well some tips. A support system is greatly needed. If you are a student, please share some tips below.

TW:The M word - Money | How it's impacted my Mental Health.

As its still mental health awareness month, I wanted to share my thoughts on money. This is how it's affected me and my small business.

I know social media paints a perfect picture at times even though I do my best to share the reality of life.

This is a big struggle for me as a student and solopreneur. It is also tough as someone with ADHD.

I feel it is important to have these conversations not just as small business owners but also as consumers, individuals and families.

I would love to know your thoughts and feelings about this. Please share below πŸ’­

TW: Mental illness | World Mental Health Day - Swipe πŸ‘ˆ

The one thing that has people have said that stuck with me is "oh but you're so strong and smart, you will figure it out." It felt as if I am some kind of super human. The emphasis placed on the presumption that "I will be okay" instead of the compassion and support I truly needed.

Over the years I have struggled so much on my own. I thought that all of it was normal. I burned out severely in 2015, I had a nervous breakdown. I was called crazy, and not given the support I needed. It has been a long, hard journey. Some days I feel like it's too much, I am too much, and some days I feel okay. Every day with is different and I am still trying to figure it out. For a long time I thought there was something wrong with me but now I know that it's simply ADHD. Without my amazing therapist I really do not know where I would be.

This World Mental Health Day I would like to

Please note this is not to shame, blame or anything else but to bring mental health awareness.

I am grateful for this self-care tribe πŸ™ I am also thankful for the few individuals close to me who have helped and continue too.

We are sold one idea of idea of success. While some people may be happy with this version, not all of us want this. It's important that we start defining what success looks like to us as individuals.

Busy is the term I've been hearing from all the people I've met and spoken to (myself included)

I often ask myself why is it that we are so busy 🫨
Life is full of 'things' we have to deal with and do. This includes work, school, home stuff, family responsibilities and social gatherings etc.

But sometimes we get caught up in it and we don't make time for what we really WANT to do. We often, forget that we also NEED rest.

So how do we evaluate our Busyness?

πŸ’š Look at what we are spending out time on, have a time log of everything.
πŸ’š See what may take up alot of your time that perhaps you can find a more simple way to do or a process or pre-plan (this can include meal prep, shopping online for groceries etc.)
πŸ’š Look at what we have been avoiding and why.
πŸ’š Prioritise things that give you energy.
πŸ’š Practice saying NO to things you don't want to do.
πŸ’š Set boundaries where needed to limit the amount of your time that is asked of.
πŸ’š Before committing, ask yourself if this is something you have capacity for and if it truly aligns with your values.
πŸ’š Ask for help, get support or hire help.

Not all opportunities are the right fit. Busy isn't a badge of honour. Realise that being busy doesn't make you more valuable.

Every self help book, podcast and channel out there has so much advice for you... So much so you are led to believe that you need to do what they are saying.

But what if you have gathered enough knowledge, skills and experience? Naturally you will continue to learn and grow. However, do we need to continously take new courses, constantly work on ourselves and try to be the "best" version of ourselves.

What if you are the best version right now? What if you don't need to achieve more, keep working harder, keep pushing and striving for being better.

What if this version of you is who you are meant to be?

Just a thought. Maybe, just maybe, you are already who you were meant to be but the world has you believing you need to be more.
