Shout out to these two — excellent engineers and good company! Businesses as small as ours rely on having a strong team, and we are so glad to have André and Mathew board.

The whole Milestone team (most of whom are not pictured here) will be enjoying a well-earned break from 13 December. We’ll be back on 6 January.

More choirs we recorded with Cinemagic Cinemagic Scoring this year! Pictured here: the Amici de Lumine ZA and Cape Town Camerata vocal groups.

We love recording choirs — there's no feeling like having this many people singing in the same room at the same time. Especially when the room sounds as good as ours 😊 It's an ancient experience that's good for soul.

Thank you to everyone in involved in making these sorts of big sessions possible.

It was so cool to have a series of vocal recording sessions with Callum Kerr! We connected to producing legend David Huff in Nashville, who directed the sessions remotely.

The quality of audio we can send and receive in real time is amazing, and makes cross-continental collaborations like this possible.

String theory…

Here are members of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra's string section getting ready for our latest Cinemagic Scoring session.

We record the orchestra section by section, which this gives us greater control and isolation. When mixing, it's helpful that there's no bleed from brass on the string mics, for example, and no timpani interfering with the solo flute…

It's such a pleasure to work with players, composers, and conductors of this calibre. The range of pieces is also great — film themes, gaming scores, library music, you name it.

It's been special to have Benjamin Jephta at Milestone for the past two days. Here he is with some of Cape Towns finest jazz players: Kujenga, Keno Carelse, Justin Bellairs and Zeke Le Grange. Thanks to all the musicians who came through — pictured here and not — and especially to Benjamin for the compositions.

It's such a pleasure to use our big studio for the kind of live ensemble recording you need to capture improvised music. We can't wait for the final product!

Recording prepared piano at Milestone Studios

Coila-Leah Enderstein rehearsing a new prepared piano piece written by composer Amy Crankshaw-Luyendijk (Amy Jane) for a recording at Milestone Studios. Some of the piano strings were plucked by hand, and we had to set up a special ultra-close DPA4006 microphone to pick up the detail.
