Woohoo, huge congratulations to SA’s Blitzbokke who just got through to the semis of the Olympics Rugby 7s, beating the top-seeded New Zealand 🇿🇦👏

SA was the last team to qualify, only managing it a few weeks ago. When you love South Africa, life is a white-knuckle ride ❤️🤣

Good luck, guys, for the semis versus host nation France on Saturday (3.30pm on SABC 3 and DSTV’s Supersport). Gold medal final is at 7.45pm 😅😅😅

'Mom was an alcoholic and would lie on the couch, unable to cook. She didn't know how to take care of me, but I knew she loved me. One Christmas she disappeared, and my brother and I ran out of food.'

How did this challenging childhood set Cape Town's Thobelani on a path of approval seeking, lies and substance abuse? How did he conquer his addictions to find a healthy way of living that’s now positively impacting hundreds of people? And how does he advise others to combat the emotions causing addiction in the first place?🙌

Savour Thobelani's searingly honest story, then pass it on to encourage someone that negative cycles CAN be broken! 🤩

He lied, he stole, he smoked w**d and was drunk while writing a Matric Afrikaans exam. Impressing people was his priority. But now he's found a healthy way of living that's impacting so many people for the good. How did he get there? Meet Cape Town's Thobelani Mbala grew up in a difficult home situa...

It’s nearly two years since Cape Town mom Jenni Rowe lost Ky, her student son. He ended his life. ‘He was so strong and present, the helper, the listener, the carer,’ she says. ‘He had the most gorgeous, cheeky smile and touched so many lives with his kindness.'

Through heartbreak and devastation, Jenni has chosen to honour Ky’s life by launching a campaign and brand, KY-ND. 'I want to highlight the need for kindness in our world and raise awareness around mental health,' she says.

Jenni hopes that by wearing KY-ND apparel, people will ignite difficult conversations, engagement and awareness. 'It opens the door for stories to be told, conversations to be had, and the power of kindness to spread,' she says. 'We need to feel connected and heard. By sharing our stories, we can heal.'

‘It doesn’t matter whether you spell it kind or KY-ND, just know that kindness will make the world of difference and a lasting impression on someone if you practise it,’ she says. 'Kind words matter. KY-ND is also a reminder to be kind to yourself and speak out. It’s ok to say that you’re not ok. If you say it, you own it. And then you can change it by opening yourself up to opportunities that bring meaning and a purpose to your days.’

The range currently focuses on t-shirts which sell at R350. KY-ND is also raising funds for underprivileged children with cleft palates to gain smiles like Ky’s via Operation Smile South Africa. What a beautiful initiative to support 💚

What could be more heartwarming than these joyful creations by Hanover Park's 'Buzzy Bee' knitting group?

Brought together after the loneliness of lockdown to knit and crochet one afternoon for charity, these industrious ladies have gone on to meet regularly and create gorgeous items that bring warmth and comfort to vulnerable people across Cape Town.

The wonderful by-product of their kindness is a renewed social life following the pandemic. 'We have wonderful chats and fellowship,' says Buzzy Bee Wendy. ‘It breaks the boredom,’ says knitter Alice. ‘I feel part of something bigger than myself,' says fellow group member Jenny.

You, too, can join the bigger picture. The ladies rely on donations of wool, so if you have any to donate or would like to fund some, please consider contacting Mel on 082 410 7365

'A four-month-old baby changed me forever. She passed away... and I had to break the news to her mother, whose grief was monumental. As I sat with her, I realised how desensitised I'd become. I was seeing children as problems to be solved, not souls to be loved. I knew something was missing in the whole process.’

If you're feeling discombobulated and are a lover of the quirky and intriguing written word, a new memoir could be the thing for you.

Created by Natasha Anderson of Rawsonville to represent her entire life from the high chair onwards, 'Metamorphosis' weaves together many literary genres, including letters, songs, quotes and poems to offer a triumphant, spiritual resolution to the emptiness and devastation that had previously been her lot.

'So many in our world today are struggling,' says Natasha. 'I wrote this book because I'm passionately interested in helping the lost and bringing about healing, wholeness and comfort to people suffering from mental health issues, serious physical illnesses, and emotional and spiritual problems. I want this book to give them hope.'

Congratulations, Natasha! The book is available at Christ Church Kenilworth -CCK for R200. People outside South African can buy it at Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk 🌿

It's great to see that players who'll be doing their utmost to beat each other at the Rugby World Sevens tournament in Cape Town this weekend can enjoy each other's company off the pitch 🧡

This week, the captains of the 24 men's and women's teams in the tournament got together to discover the food and fashion delights of Cape Town's Oranjezicht City Farm Market.

The HSBC SVNS Cape Town kicks off this Saturday, 10 December and runs until Sunday. Let's hope the male Blitzboks can pull off another fantastic tournament win as they did last week in Dubai, and all power to the female Blitzbok side who, excitingly, have now qualified for the Olympics in Paris next year. You know summer's almost hit the Cape when you can watch movies under the stars again 🙌

Last night saw the summer launch of The Galileo Open Air Cinema at this great Cape Town venue in Kirstenbosch Gardens. Offering a free ticket to anyone in their birthday week, the Galileo schedule spans venues from Franschhoek and Paarl to Kuils River and Century City, and runs till April 2024. Check it out right here: https://thegalileo.co.za/movies/

PS Ahem, if you're thinking of going this month, grab a beanie and a warm jacket. It's not actually summer yet, people, and by the time the stars came out last night the vibe wasn't entirely tropical 😉

She dropped out of school at 15 and began using drugs. Then had two babies, followed by a parenting crisis. It was all going very wrong 😱

So how did Colleen of Rondebosch get out of the sinking sand? And how on earth did she end up impacting the lives of hundreds of thousands by starting the potent organisation that is U-turn Homeless Ministries?

This authentic South African story is the stuff of movies, and gives hope to anyone in a difficult place. Don't miss it, and do consider sharing it! 😀🇿🇦

How did Colleen Lewis, a school dropout from the suburbs of Cape Town, overcome drugs and a parenting crisis to establish U-turn, a powerful organisation that has turned around the lives of many thousands of homeless people?

You know that sense of exhilaration and freedom you can get from running? Well, this week, a group of homeless people in Cape Town got to feel just that 😀

It was World Homeless Day on Tuesday, and thanks to local running clubs and companies approached by The Hope Exchange, every participant had used but perfectly suitable tackies in which to run 👏🏽

Together with staff and supporters from The Hope Exchange, the unhoused participants ran together in the suburb of Gardens before going to The Hope Exchange's premises in Roeland Street for a meal cooked by Ladles of Love. Medals were given out to everyone, and a lucky draw was held to add to the fun.

Said The Hope Exchange's Marie Slundt: 'The most important purpose of the event is for our clients to enjoy and feel they accomplished something. I hope it can show that being homeless does not necessarily mean you don't appreciate social interactions, or engaging in activities that people with a roof do.' ❤️

Huge congrats to Ikey Tigers of the University of Cape Town who have just won the World University Rugby Invitation Tournament in France!

A close-fought final saw them beating their hosts, the University of Bordeaux, 20-17 in front of a vocal French home crowd 🙌

This is the third time in a row that UCT has won the tournament, which takes place every four years in the country that hosts the Rugby World Cup. The inaugural match was in 2015 - so UCT has always come out of the tournament victorious!

May the Springoks follow suit 🇿🇦 Go Bokke!

Congrats too to the women's Sevens team from University of Pretoria who came third in their tournament 🏉🌱
