"The tournament may be over. And our creatives may already be crafting their next body of work. But just like the essence of Visa’s brand film, the monumental ‘Mama I made it’ moments are built upon countless small steps – with big impact. Be present for them. Celebrate them. And most importantly, let's keep moving forward,” says Nkululeko Vilakazi, Creative Director.

As you may know, our team has been hard at work creating some epic TVCs for our amazing client: Spotify. We are proud to share this @spotifyafrica ad, titled “Como Esta It” (watch below).
Machine_ Strategy Lead, Tafadzwa Muzuwa, shared some insight into the strategy behind the campaign.
“Spotify wanted to convert #SouthAfricans into Monthly Active Users as well as drive mass awareness of the platform,” says Tafadzwa. “For a relatively new platform in our market, but still a cultural force, we knew we wanted to connect with our audience by honouring their personal expression through music,” she explains.
“Music is personal, it speaks for us. And with Spotify’s vast catalogue and smart personalisation, no profile is the same. So whatever YOU like, we got it,” she says.
Machine_ Senior Art Director, Mantwa Toka, who also worked on the campaign adds: “As people, we present ourselves in different ways to different people, but there comes a time when we just want to be ourselves and expose all our sides freely. Spotify has over 82-million songs for us to choose from, to express ourselves in those moments,” says Mantwa.
“In this first ad [there are three for SA], we flip your assumptions of what you’d expect a respected Stokvel committee member to be listening to 😉 but that just happens to be what she’s into – and Spotify has that. Just like they’ve got whatever you’re into,” explains Mantwa.
All the Spotify TV commercials will be showcased on our social media and YouTube channels throughout the month, so keep an eye out.

Today is the day! Machine_ loves #MandelaDay – traditionally we’ve always donated 67 minutes of our time to good causes, but when the Covid-19 Pandemic hit, we had to think of new ways to keep the momentum going and support those in need. After two successful years of our Machine_67 campaign, we are now launching the 2022 initiative with a fantastic collection of new, local art, created by our team at Machine_. Key creative staff members, well-known in the industry, have donated their time to create artworks inspired by Madiba, to be auctioned off. This year’s funds go straight back into the community to support the future of creativity. We are partnering with Blackboard Community – an organisation that aims to democratise creativity by exposing high school students in townships to the idea of creativity as a career. By donating R50 or more to Blackboard your name will be entered into a draw to win a piece of this year’s art. We are thrilled to take home the @publicis.groupe.africa Product Excellent Gold Award for our Heineken UCL campaign at this year's Golden Lions Awards, as well as two Product Excellence Certificates for Ucook and Doritos.
Well done and thank you to all involved!

In support of Mandela Day, Machine_ has always donated 67 minutes of our time to good causes, but in 2020 we had to pivot. So we asked Machine_ staff to donate 67 minutes of their time creating art inspired by Madiba that we auctioned off, generating funds that helped pay teacher’s salaries at a local school. The art initiative was such a success that we’re bringing it back in 2021🙌🎨
