This is only 2 weeks post the in-salon mask treatment, so she still has redness.

Cosmelan Results 2024: Before & After

2 weeks after the Cosmelan in-salon mask and starting the home care protocol at home.

This client has ‘textbook melasma.’

It’s normal for the skin to ‘purge’ underlying congestion and be a little sensitive in these early stages.

What exactly is rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic hypersensitivity disorder of the face.

It is common on the nose and cheeks, and appears red, sometimes with little papules. (bumps)
There are often visible dilated blood vessels called telangiectasias.

The skin could have excess oil or be dry, and can feel hot and uncomfortable.
The skin barrier function is impaired.

The cause of rosacea is unknown but there are many studies which link gut health to this skin concern.

Rosacea can be aggravated or triggered by sun exposure, stress, digestive disorders, extreme temperatures, spicy food, and alcohol.

It is essential for the client to avoid sun exposure and use a medical-grade sunscreen.

What treatment and product options are available for
hyperpigmentation?

As always, we start with a thorough consultation with our clients.

We assess what type of hyperpigmentation is present, and what internal or external triggers may impact this.

This also determines what treatment plan is required first at home, and then at our practice.

The product brands we work with provide some revolutionary options.
We suggest products with tyrosinase inhibitors (to suppress melanin production), usually fruit acids to exfoliate the skin, and medical-grade sunscreens, to use daily.

Specific peels and microneedling treatments are often great options, as well as deeper treatments such as Cosmelan from Mesoestetic.

There is no overnight solution for hyperpigmentation - it requires a consistent and long term commitment.

WHAT IS HYPERPIGMENTATION?

The pigmentation process is a natural mechanism of the skin to protect itself from UV radiation.

Hyperpigmentation occurs as a result of chronic UV damage along with factors that activate the pigmentation process. This is a complex mechanism of action.

There are different types of hyperpigmentation:

Ephelides, also known as freckles, are a common type of pigmentation.

Melasma is a skin condition more common in women with a darker skin tone. It appears as blotchy, symmetrical brown patches on the face.

Solar and senile lentigo are flat tan, brown or black spots on the skin common with age. Usually seen in sun exposed areas.

PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) occurs when the skin produces extra melanin after irritation or an injury.
