Belgian Film Festival - Cape Town What are the different categories? Out of all the entries, 5 finalists per category will be pre-selected by our in-house professional filmmakers’ team.

MMOCA has been created to showcase, nurture, and support the emerging creative filmmaker, who using technology available from a mobile device (smartphone, tablet, action camera or drone) to create stories in a cinematic way. MMOCA is looking for short films (max 5min in length) in the following categories:
fiction
documentary
advertisement

Who will be the finalists? The films of the 15 finalists,

spread over the 3 categories, will be judged by an international panel of filmmaking fundies. There will be one award winner per category. All finalists are considered winners in their own right. All finalists will be invited to our red-carpet MMOCA Awards Night in the Belgian Consular Residence in Cape Town. What are the awards and prizes? A production grant of R 10.000 for the winner of each category: the award winner will be asked to use this grant to produce a promotional film for the sponsor of the award category. Details will be discussed between the sponsor and the award winner. A Jury Price for the winner of each category: R 5000

The Awards are:

The Flemish Representation Award for Best Documentary
The Wallonia - Brussels Federation Award for Best Fiction Film
The Flemish Investment & Trade Award for Best Advertisement

Entries too MMOCA are free for students and R100 for all others. A mobile filmmaking online workshop will be offered for free. Competitors will be invited to register for the mobile filmmaking workshop. All films must be submitted before 13 November 2020. Filmmakers wil be notified before 20 November if they are selected as finalists. Rules & Terms

All films submitted must be shot on a mobile device, in other words, a mobile phone or tablet, drone, GoPro-style camera. Movies that include shots from an SLR or video camera will not be accepted. All films submitted in a language other than English must have English subtitles. Any software to edit video (on the smartphone or a computer) and audio as well as colour correction or special effects is allowed. Use of additional equipment (professional or home made) is allowed, including (but not limited to) external microphone, lenses, lighting, tripod etc. All films submitted must have a short description and answers to the following questions:
With which mobile device did you record your short film? Brand of the device with which you recorded your short film? In how many days did you make the short film? (Includes preproduction, production, and post- production)

The length of the films should be no shorter than 30 seconds and no longer than 300 seconds. Films must have been produced between January 1, 2020, and 12 November 2020. We are only accepting online submissions through FilmFreeway. We will not accept DVD’s so please do not send them as they will not be viewed. Submitting your short films does not guarantee screening or acceptance. A notification of acceptance will be sent by written email from the MMOCA Festival. The submission fee is non- refundable. Submissions must have full clearance for all content before submitting it. Any issues that may arise due to the infringement of copyrights is the participant’s responsibility. No extreme violence or racist content is allowed. We do accept films that have been published online before submitting. It is allowed to enter multiple films. MMOCA Festival and its members are not responsible for any infringement of copyrights. When submitting to the MMOCA festival participants agree to the reproduction and dissemination of their films for the display and promotion of the festival.
