You may have noticed I've been quiet on here, well on my profile, at least. Regular programming is kinda continuing on my stories, but I'm not OK!

I feel like I'm stuck in a continuous loop of sadness, despair, stress, anxiety, and depression and I'm really struggling to see any light at the end of any tunnel! At the moment, things are just looking pretty dark and bleak!

The one thing I have realized is that I definitely am not going to be able to pull myself out of this state on my own, and I've actively started to look at therapy options!

Life's all about perspective!

I've been in a really dark space for the last few months as one thing after the next just went wrong and it felt like I was constantly drowning in stress, anxiety, and depression!

And while I am not quite out of the woods yet I've decided that it's time for a shift in perspective in an attempt to try to manifest some positivity and light back into my life!!

I'd love to hear any tips or suggestions anyone has that I can try so drop me a comment below with things that help you stay positive or motivate you out of a bad spot!

Hi, my name is Dean and I'm not ok!

In the spirit of openness, honesty, and vulnerability I'm coming on here to talk about what's been going on.

And it's a lot. Between injuries, covid, moving, weight gain, and trying to keep up with work and still have time to relax I've found myself drowning, often unable to catch a break or a breath and not knowing how to prioritize my time.

I've let important things slip and have found myself resorting to the default of there is just too much going on so I'd rather do nothing and now I have a to-do list that is a living, breathing monster bashing down my door.

In addition to this my latest setback, Covid, has knocked me mentally and physically and I'm finding myself unable to concentrate and physically quite weak compounding my stress and anxiety and putting me in this weird loop!

I'm not sure the best way out of this but I am going to take some time off here for the next few days to just refocus and reset and hopefully come back stronger with some more amazing content!

A little bit of a life update and a massive appreciation post for this special woman

You might have seen that we are in the middle of a house move and we cannot wait to show you all our new and beautiful space!

Unfortunately, this move has coincided with a really busy work period for me and I'm so grateful that Trace has been able to pick up the slack and orchestrate the entire move singlehandedly!

This, in addition to recovering from a massive surgery and a massive life change all of which she has handled in her typically calm and organized manner and is nailing it!

In addition to the chaos that is moving week, I also have a very exciting application video coming out this week shot by my friend plus a brand new and delish video also launching this week!

O and I start properly running on Tues with a chilled 30 min run and I cannot even wait!

When Insta friends become instant friends! Menzi]

Gosh, I love social media and Instagram in particular, mainly because I've met so many incredible people who are doing amazing things!

The most amazing thing is that you quickly find that you have so much in common and all it takes is a 3-hour hike to become instant friends!!!

Today was one of those days! Menzi] and I spent the morning in the mountains chatting about life, sport, politics, economics, fitness and so much more and although we are rivals on the soccer and rugby field I think we can get past that 😜🤪🤣

So here's an idea, let's make 2023 the year we turn insta friends into instant friends!

A little bit of a life update!

Wow! This year has been A LOT and we haven't even finished Feb yet!

When I last did an update I was in a very bad place but I'm super happy to report that I am feeling a lot better and more positive!

Here are some things I'm excited about!
1. is recovering so well from her op and is improving in leaps and bounds every day
2. We are moving into the most epic Townhouse at the beginning of March and I cannot wait to turn it into a home!
3. Tomorrow I kick start my running program with my new coach and although it's gonna be slow and steady I'm just so amped to get back running
4. I've finally settled on an eating plan that I not only enjoy but one I hope will help me lose the excess weight from this period of inactivity
5. I have 2 exciting races lined up already. The lighthouse run at the beginning of March and the in April
6. I have managed to change my anxiety and depression medication around and it has helped so much
7. This week and I launch our influencer events with and some amazing influencers!!!
8. The Frontrunner applications opened today and I'm stoked to get my application in! is going to help me create an epic reel!

Exciting announcement #2
I've officially joined the Brendan] academy!!!

One of the best things I ever did for my running was to start taking my strength and conditioning seriously and thanks to Brendan I noticed huge improvements!

With that in mind, it made sense for me to let Brendan take care of my running program as well as my strength training creating a holistic approach that I know will take my running to the next level!

For those that don't know Brendan] is not only a professional trail runner with the team but also a qualified sports scientist, a personal trainer, and an all-round lekker dude!

Dejected, demotivated, demoralized but not defeated!

I have been dreading writing this post for about 2 weeks now and have been putting it off and trying to bury it with the hopes that somehow the situation would change and the hole I currently find myself in would magically shoot me back into the real world!

Well, it hasn't and it's time to talk about it...

This year started slow but positive! I wrote down all these amazing goals I had for my running and fitness, I was going to tackle Bay 2 Bay and Red Hill and finally complete my 1st Road Marathon! I was going to get my diet and nutrition right and I was going to spend lots of time in the mountains!

That was until the 2nd week of Jan while running that my feet started acting up and causing significant pain. I stupidly brushed it off and ran through the pain for a week before I could no longer run at all!

What followed was not only a physical breakdown but a mental one! The one thing in my life that helped me ease my worries, clear my mind, and had brought me so much joy was suddenly taken away from me and I just couldn't rationalize it!

What followed was 3 weeks of seeing every specialist I could find! I visited my podiatrist, saw physios and bios, went for sports massages, and even tried Lyno therapy! I foam rolled and stretched and rested and waited!

And yet nothing changed and nothing helped, physically at least! Mentally this break has given me a chance to process, work through and deal with some tough mental battles but make peace with my new status quo!

Injuries happen, setbacks are inevitable and life is never one easy road but it's how we respond to these challenges that define us!

So how I have responded?
Well, I'm still working through physical therapy and trying to find a solution but as of today I'm heading back to the gym with and I am going to start spinning and maybe even swimming!

Most importantly I've accepted that it might be a while until I can properly run again but I've given myself that grace and time to get back with the ultimate goal now to complete the pain-free no matter how long it takes!

Brilliant breakfasts made easy with Checkers

One thing you should know about me is that I am generally a slow starter in the mornings, often waking up with mere minutes to go to my 1st meeting or appointment of the day!

Here is my 5-ingredient Checkers Simple Truth grab-and-go Muesli Jar!
1. Simple Truth Muesli. I used a combo of the Currant & Almond Dry Roasted Muesli and Simple Truth Gluten Free High Protein Swiss Style Muesli! While the Swiss has reduced sugar and is gluten-free the Currant and Almond are sugar-free! Both are delish!

3. Simple Truth Chia and Sunflowers Seeds. I sprinkled some seeds on for extra fiber, crunch, and taste!

5. Fresh fruits! Checkers have a beautiful range of fresh fruits, I used strawberries and bananas but you could use anything that you fancy! I even spotted some Dragon Fruit!

An ode to the coach Nic De Beer

3 years ago, I discovered the incredible sport of running, and what started as a way to get out of my flat during Covid turned into a hobby and then into a passion!

However, it wasn't until I met Nic De Beer that my life truly changed. Not only did Nic help me take my running to the next level, he coached me, trained me, listened to me, and taught me so many lessons about this incredible sport!

With Nic by my side I went from run/walking 5kms to running 10kms to completing plenty of half-marathons and then taking things a step further by moving onto 30km runs and eventually a marathon! He guided me through some amazing road and trail races and provided much-needed encouragement when I needed it the most!

With the start of 2023 and the current injury I am dealing with combined with my goal of being consistent and focused this year I have made the tough decision to move over to a new coach and all will be revealed soon!

But for now I want to say a massive thank you to Nic De Beer
You have done more for me than you will ever know and I will always be grateful for the role you played in my journey!!!

Meet the newest Two Oceans Marathon Ambassador!!!!

Honestly, I am so excited by this oppurtunity to work with the race that started it all for me!

When I started running 3 years ago I had this crazy dream to one day be able to run a Two Oceans half-marathon, not only did I achieve that dream last year but I have somehow fallen in love with running and it's power to change lives!
