Some of our highlights ✨️
God's really been very good. He opened doors and located the right people to Shofar Books .
1. We hosted the first Cape Flats Literary Awards 2024.
2. We presented at the Children's Book Conference at Amwazi South African Museum of Literature.
3. We had a Book Talk at Gelvandale Library.
4. We exhibited books at a Book Fair in Wynberg.
5. We judged at a Poetry Competition for National Book Week at Meltonrose Public Library.
6. We partnered with The Language Board of South Africa.
7. We partnered with a There's More To Life Online Magazine (Lamees Meyer) to feature authors on a monthly basis.
8. We partnered with The Groote Kerk and Poets Vannie Kaap on the Krotoa Anthology project.
9. We partnered with Poets Vannie Kaap and hosted an Open Mic Poetry Session live on air at Afrikaap Radio 📻.
10. We hosted the first Eastern Cape Literary Awards 2024.
11. Shofar Books came second in a competition at the Bellville Business Expo and won amazing prizes sponsored by Tygervalley Shopping Center, Chart Your Path, Get-Published and PnP.
12. Haroldene was crowned Top 30 Influential Women of the year in CapeTown.
13. We attended the Eastern Cape Book Fair in East London.
14. We partnered once again with Poets Vannie and facilitated creative writing workshops at False Bay Primary School and PD Paulse Memorial Library.
15. A Case Study was done by The University of Stellenbosch and Johannesburg and featured Shofar Books. We traveled to Johannesburg for the launch and celebrated the beautiful occasion.
16. Bayfm 107.9 and Radio Pulpit also interviewed us twice this year.
17. We distributed over 60 titles this year. Thanks to The Western Cape, Northern Cape, Johannesburg, North West, Eastern Cape Departments of Recreational, Sports, Arts and Culture for selecting these books for the libraries.
18. Thabo Leholo. Latifah Jacobs, Theolla Langenhoven and Jeremy Dames served as judges for the award ceremonies. Thank you.
We did a lot. Our target was to publish 50 books this year. We didn't make the target but we published 41 titles. Due to health and other responsibilities, the pending titles will be published in January 2025.
We want to take this opportunity to thank our editors, printers, authors, our partners Poets Van Kaap, City of Cape Town Library, Groote Kerk Kaapstad, Afrikaap Radio, Macassar Primary, False Bay Primary and Wilstans Book Supplies for all the work you have done as well as opening your doors for us.
